View Full Version : QF175/176 - Not A Daily Service?

Hello All,

It seems Qantas has cancelled all Tuesday BNE-LAX-BNE services until 03JUN.

BNE-LAX-BNE increased to daily late-March, with new flights on Tuesday and Thursday.

I noticed that there was so BNE-LAX service today (15th), although there was one last week (8th, operated by VH-OJF).

Does anyone know why Qantas has cancelled TUE QF175/QF176 services for the next 7 weeks?

Have they realised that they cannot provide a daily service with the aircraft that they have at their disposal or is it due to maintenance requirements? I've noticed that VH-OJD is currently at AVV - in for a major check - hence the reason for a reduction in QF175/176 flying?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers and Thanks

I was booked on QF #149 Syd-Lax on 20 Apr. It was cancelled on 8th April. This flight ran 3 days a week and is now only on Fri's. Have been shoved to Syd- Melb on domestic joining QF 93 to LAX. Makes it that much longer when one is going straight through to Fort Lauderdale.

Thats Qantas for you.

A line of 744 flying has had to be removed up to November so more changes to come. Expect to see some 333 operating 744 routes and 767 and 743 operating 333 routes.
BNE-LAX and MEL-AKL-LAX will return to daily 744 ops later in the year.
Delays in delivery of 380 and 787 have plagued Qantas with route expansion and retirement of older aircraft.
2 x 332 will join the fleet in Jul and Aug for ops on double daily MEL-PER and double daily SYD-PER. 743 flying to be substantially reduced on east-west flights. 332 will be in 38J/265Y domestic config.

The 744 D-check programme is fairly busy at the moment, necessitating the removal of a line of flying out to 20NOV as Mikel has said.

The first period of cancellations covers the period 13 April to 08 June inclusive and are:

• Sun QF149/150 SYD/LAX vv
• Tue QF175/176 BNE/LAX vv
• Thu QF149/8 SYD/LAX vv
• Sat QF179/180 MEL/NRT vv (except for Sat 03MAY, and a possible downgrade to 763 on 31MAY).
• Downgrade Sat QF127/128 SYD/HKG to A330

Flying after 08JUN is still being decided.

Did SYD-JNB flights on 13 and 14 of April by any chance get cancelled also? We needed to look at booking either of these flights last minute at work a week before and they didn't show up on the QF website booking engine, but were on the timetable. Or were they perhaps full?

QANTAS CONDITIONS OF CARRIAGE

9. Schedules, Late or Cancelled Flights

9.1 Schedules
(a) The flight time shown on your ticket may change between the date of issue and your date of travel. We do not guarantee the flight times and they do not form part of your contract of carriage with us.

...

9.2 Late or Cancelled Flights (Except in Circumstances Beyond Our Control)
We will take all reasonable measures necessary to carry you and your baggage and to avoid delay in doing so. In doing so and in order to prevent a flight cancellation, in exceptional circumstances we may arrange for a flight to be operated on our behalf by an alternative carrier and/or aircraft.

...

If we:

cancel a flight
fail to operate a flight reasonably according to the flight schedule
fail to stop at your destination or stopover destination, or
cause you to miss a connecting flight on your ticket on which you hold a confirmed reservation,
you can choose one of the following three options:

Option 1 - we will carry you at the earliest opportunity on another of our scheduled services on which space is available without additional charge and, where necessary, extend the validity period of your ticket

Subject to the provisions of 6.9 and 9.1 above, these shall be the only remedies available to you and we shall have no further liability to you unless otherwise specified by the convention or any applicable laws

May seem like a gamble, but if you tick the box you're accepting the terms and conditions. Other airlines have similiar policies, but at least they take it upon themselves to find alternate flights for you. Similarly, you can quote this legal document if they do not provide the correct services, and the same goes for other airlines. It is a contract you are agreeing to, after all. Both sides need to keep their ends of the deal!

Think of it this way - it will make getting Fort Lauderdale so much sweeter when you eventually arrive!
