In case anyone was wondering, it was an F-111 that just performed a touch and go on 34L.

A rare sight at Sydney.

As i saw it from The Mound it was a fly over at 2.55pm, about 100 feet at moderate speed with speed brakes deployled & announced on 120.5 about 2 minutes out over the Bay .Went down 34l & then climbed slowly into the haze.Very nose high. No photo, sorry.

I saw it from the tower Danny, It was a touch and go with a very shallow climb out. On the runway from about A5 to lift off again just north B10.

Hopefully some photos will turn up.

Thanks , could not see the full runway .A big surprise , any idea why it turned up today ? Also at the Mound a new trench for power cabling is being excavated & the sight lines are even more reduced with trucks around etc.

Just a training flight I believe. Falcon 66 was the callsign from memory.

So can we have an A380 do a touch and go at Amberley, for practise?

Not sure but there have been some Qantas A330's? do touch and goes for training there? Not sure about A380 though sorry Philip.

Would have been a great sight seeing it at Sydney. Spooked some of the commercial pilots as its certainly not every day that sort of thing happens. Any photos?

Would love to see an F111 take off from 34L and ignite its afterburners for a rapid ascent - that would be a spectacular sight. Off 34R with noise abatement might be a bit of a challenge!

Off 34R with noise abatement might be a bit of a challenge!

I was near Krispy Kreme about a week ago when an F-111 took off on 34R. They didn't seem to care too much about the noise abatement.

It'll be a real shame when the RAAF lets these aircraft go. They have beautiful classic lines and there is nothing else that sounds like them.

The F1-11 is always spectacular to see. I once saw a USN F14 go from 16L, Very slow climb initialy and then when over the Bay it just seemed to go vertical. Was out of sight in no time. Great noise.

The same F-111s did a simulated attack on RAAF Base East Sale as part of the training mission. Pity I was in a meeting at the time, but I certainly heard them alright.
