QF63 was operated by VH-OEI today a 747-400ER. Normally I believe it is operated by a RR powered aircraft.

Will this be a permanent change now that the 4th A380 has been delivered and there is a spare -ER available?

I've noted a few 747-400ER's on QF63 flying over here in Launceston. Noted OEB flying over the other week. So maybe just one of those odd days they had to use the ER?

OEB isn't a -400ER.

They've been using ER's over the last few months to JNB, Wunala operated it last Thurs and Sat. Not sure of the real reason, but im guessing it is due to the decrease in business traffic to the US, so the ERs are not being used as much as the QF11 and sometimes the QF107 (ERs have 66 business seats vs 52 for RRs). Maybe business traffic to JNB is higher at the moment

For reference, today's 63 was operated by OED

pretty decent head-winds too, work-mate flew from PER-BNE the other night in 3hrs 25min, return was just on 6hrs.

Its been pretty windy up there for a while. The olds flew Sydney-Perth four Saturdays a go in about 5hrs 45min and got hom last Saturday in 3hrs 8mins. So they tell me anyway.

Dad tells me he was pretty excitied when the map on his PTV told him the cracked 1,150kph.

Can't remember now, think the were onboard an A332.

Cheers

Have been monitoring cross-country speeds on PP. Heading over to Perth they have been managing mid-high 300's and coming east high 500's and in many cases over 600 knots.

I think I mentioned somewhere else that a friend who flew the Emirates A380 to Sydney told me they clocked over 700 knots from Perth onwards to Sydney.

Did a Brisbane-Perth in 6h30min a few years ago...that would have been a super quick flight back to Brisbane!
