DL16 Los Angeles
Flt Cancelled 18/9/2009
9:25am 18/9/2009
9:25am G01 Cancelled

I arrived on QFA442 from MEL on A332 around 420pm and saw the 777 parked at M5...

Any ideas as to the reason for cancelled flight?

maybe relates to yesterdays diversion to BNE ?

cheers

It was parked over the near old control tower all day. I couldn't see any activity around it so it might have been a flow on effect from yesterday.

Delta is actually 6 times a week between Sep 6 and Dec 6 due to "maintenance"

I saw Delta at the remote stand at about 9.30am Friday as i was driving past and thought it to be odd, and then again it was still there around 4am this morning when driving past. Interestingly, N704DK arrived as DL17 but N703DN departed today as DL18.

I presume then that N704DK will spend the night tonight??

_Been alot of talk on "airliners" about them ferrying the aircraft used on the Sydney run to LHR to be sprayed for bugs maybe they are getting it done in Sydney now hence the layover._________________

It is actually N704DN :)
Are you sure its DN because airframes.org as well as PP and 16right have it as DK?

Does that then mean that N704DN/DK will depart tomorrow morning as 16 and the arriving 17 will overnight again? Tomorrows DAL17 will be N701DN

No worries, i was looking at their list of flights here and from what it looks like that is one of a few DK registered aircraft instead of DN for some reason.

Never heard of this happening before. Do other airlines have to do this and where does this happen usually?

It happens to every airline/flight entering Australia. Some airlines like QF/NZ do residual spraying if their aircraft operate here frequently as it has to be done regularly. UA does residual spraying of their 744s - it used to be done on the ground in SYD.

Other airlines (like CX from HKG as example) spray the aircraft before boarding and present the used spray cans to Quarantine on arrival.

Airlines based in Nth America still spraying on arrival include HA and AC because the spray cannot be used in Nth America. I heard that DL was going to residual spray in Asia during long ground times but that plan may have changed.

Bottom line = ALL aircraft to Aust are still sprayed.

I was driving along Qantas Drive and saw another Delta 777 in the QF parking lot. So do we know if this is due to the spraying issues? If so, how are they doing this now?

That's interesting re Nth America as one of the questions they ask on the USA paperwork inb is for the expiry date of the residual spray on the aircraft.

FYI the process I've seen for an expired residual or no residual is normally to spray at TOD inbound to the required destination or at the required destination under the supervision of the local authorities.

Just wondering does anybody know if Delta are still overnighting dl17 and sending it out the next day as dl16? There's a post on" Airliners " about a new time table for Tuesdays from November. . DL017 ATL1840 – 2050LAX2255 – 0840+2SYD 77L D
