View Full Version : 5th and 6th A380s for Qantas Delayed

Oliver Gigacz

The fith and six A380s for Qantas have been delayed from October to November. This makes Qantas have the longest stay for outfitting in Hamburg then any other airline.

Any idea of the reason for the delay?

Mike W

$$$$$$$$?

Think Mike has hit it on the head;)

Oliver Gigacz
23rd September 2009, 04:41 PM
At the moment the delay is for problems with the systems on board.

Ash W
23rd September 2009, 06:18 PM
Thanks that makes more sense than the two cynical replies above. Both are notorius for canning the A380 and/or Qantas at every oportunity.

Andrew M
23rd September 2009, 06:52 PM
Reduction in the amount of J and more Y+

Sarah C
23rd September 2009, 06:58 PM
Nope - they are looking at that for later aircraft.

Greg McDonald

Mike might be half right...I've read somewhere recently that Qantas has lost $90M in the last few months...

Ash W
23rd September 2009, 11:07 PM
I think you will find Oliver is a bit closer to the source and knows what the issue is, as he reported.

Just because (may have) Qantas lost $90m doesn't mean they need to defer any more orders. They have already done that. I bet if anything they are a little ****ed about another delay as they had plans for these a/c.

Oliver Gigacz
24th September 2009, 05:49 PM
The source I got this info from is very relible and all is info in the past has been correct. "MSN027 and MSN029 will be delivered in November" is what he said to me.

Mike W
25th September 2009, 06:53 PM
$$$$$$$$?

The question mark was there for a reason Ash. I don't know.

I had heard that QF were delaying the craft due to 'finicky' little problems but it was mentioned cynically that this suited QF due to financial reasons. The opportunity was there for some (thanks Oliver) to offer a factual reason.

BTW, I'll take QF anyday (I'm a Silver FF) and everyday over JQ and it annoys the crap out of me when I have to use QF FF points to fly to the likes of the Gold Coast with JQ. If I have to fly there (or similar ports where QF have abandoned for JQ) with the company paying, I'll go DJ.

Ash W
25th September 2009, 07:01 PM
I hold the same dislike for JQ as you. Thanks god they don't fly to Canberra or London, my two 'homes'

MSN029 (6th) has now slipped to December.

Oliver Gigacz
6th October 2009, 03:37 PM
MSN027 is scheduled to roll out of the outfitting halls on October 10th.

Oliver Gigacz

MSN029 is now out of the hangars and MSN027 has started taxi tests and will ferry to Toulouse on Thursday. They are both still on schedule for delivery this year.

I wonder if this will have an effect on QF's deliveries?

Arrival of first Lufthansa A380 Put Back a Few Weeks especially bearing in mind it is due to Airbus, not the airline.

http://yssyforum.net/board/showthread.php?t=4295

Oliver Gigacz
25th November 2009, 05:15 PM
No. As Lufthansa is a new airline for the A380 it will not effect QF A380s as a lot of the systems on board are different.

Andrew M
25th November 2009, 06:52 PM
Hmmm so what to think of the rumour of the Feb deliveries of the 5+6th A380's....

Oliver Gigacz
25th November 2009, 07:04 PM
That is a false rumor I have a relible source from Airbus that deliveries will be in 2009.

Also if you read the Qantas thing from the ASX it states on 3 A380 delivires next year which will be the two stored in Toulouse at the moment and also one new arrival which will arrive by Convoy in Toulouse in January.

Oliver Gigacz
25th November 2009, 11:13 PM
You can see in the link below Qantas's 7th A380 (MSN047) in yellow storage primer and minus engines.

MSN027 (5th A380) has arrived in Toulouse for final checks prior to delivery in December.

I am reliably informed that OQE and OQF will be delivered before the end of December.

Andrew M
28th November 2009, 02:05 PM
Hopefully!

Does anyone know why QF11 loses the A380 on Tuesdays from Mid December??

It reverts back to a 747-400 and I am flying QF11 in late Jan which WAS scheduled to be a A380 :(:(:(

I don't know where the IFE is fitted but if the delay is so the J class IFE can be fixed it's a very good move. For background read about my unsatisfactory experiences in my Geneva trip report: http://yssyforum.net/board/showpost.php?p=36139&postcount=21

More 380s delayed (at the request of Airbus)

http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2009/11/30/335594/mas-delays-a380s-at-request-of-airbus.html

Malaysia Airlines says the delivery of its Airbus A380s has been delayed at the airframer's request.

"We had been informed that the A380s, with the delivery date of January 2011 will commence in August 2011 instead," says CEO and managing director Azmil Zahruddin.

He adds: "We have never requested for the A380s to be delayed, all delays have been at Airbus' request."

The carrier has six A380s on order.

According to http://a380production.com/ number 5 is in final testing for delivery in the next few weeks and number 6 shortly after.

OQE on the 18th and OQF on about the 28th.

Andrew M
5th December 2009, 09:45 AM
I was hoping my vague dates would being some more exact dates out of the woodwork :D

Daily QF11 SYD-LAX flights with one of the planes I recall reading
Daily SYD-LHR flights
Addition of a Friday flight for MEL-LAX

I still want to know why my QF11 SYD-LAX on a tuesday flight is saying a 747-400

I still want to know why my QF11 SYD-LAX on a tuesday flight is saying a 747-400
That is because VH-OQE and OQF were planned to be in service by mid-December, however as you can see by my previous post they will not be!
As a result Qantas has reinstated the 747-400 into the schedule as needed.

Andrew M
5th December 2009, 10:24 AM
The A380 has been on the Tuesday QF11 route for a few months now though it's last day is this Tuesday according to the schedule

Oliver Gigacz
7th December 2009, 05:39 PM
MSN055 Qantas's #9th A380 is currently on route to Toulouse for body join.

Oliver Gigacz

Ash W
8th December 2009, 11:39 PM
Guess it is too early to know, but anyone know what the first flights of these will be? Hoping one will be on QF31 1/1 as I am flying QF32 on the 2nd ex LHR.

Anthony J

Fingers crossed for QF11 to go back to A380 on my Tuesday flight!!!

How many A380s would Qantas need to see them used for QF5/QF6 (to/from Frankfurt) ? I guess the only way to ever see Premium Economy to Frankfurt is once they use the A380 there.

Siggy

Last I heard, OQE is expected Sunday evening, but this could have changed.

Qantas has no plans to fly the A380 to Frankfurt. The A380 is for London and L.A. only.

Got my dates mixed up - OQE is next Sunday 20 December with OQF expected 1 January.

Mike W
11th December 2009, 11:25 AM
So, does that count as delivered in 2009 or 2010? It would have left Toulouse in 2009 and arrived in Aus 2010?

Oliver Gigacz
11th December 2009, 11:30 AM
No as It will be delivered to the airline in 2009 in TLS.

Mike W
11th December 2009, 05:34 PM
^ Of course. Technically delivered before the end of the year.

Just seen a photo over on airliners.net of the 5th A380 for Qantas taken on December 9th. The caption reads "for delivery in the next few days."

Anyone have any info on this or is it too late and she's already arrived?

Andrew M
14th December 2009, 11:07 PM
She is meant to be arriving this Sunday in SYD

Charlie Carter
15th December 2009, 07:12 AM

Charlie Carter
15th December 2009, 10:24 AM
I really want to photograph this one. :)

Me too... any chance of it arriving before 10am?

It had better land on 16R as well.

Hope so... just a case then of do I go to Qantas Drive or Shep's Mound?

Charlie Carter
15th December 2009, 03:32 PM
Are you mad?

Yes. :)

Re the heat haze (before I get edited for quoting the rest of your post....)

How much heat haze can there be if it's coming in before 10am?! But I do agree, Qantas Drive was my number 1 choice.

15th December 2009, 09:59 PM
Last I heard it was slated for a 730pm arrival on the Sunday afternoon/evening.
