Interesting article, Qantas seem to have had fewer operational issues with the aircraft than Siagapore or Emirates, however maybe they are just not as forthcoming with the details. It get a great wrap on performance (speed, climb and fuel), passenger comfort and inflight entertainment. The Qantas pilots interview gave some insight into the cockpit management.

Sophisticated software seems to be an ongoing problem, increased automation can make things more complicated and less flexible that necessary, probably more from a technical diagnostic perspective, than operationally.

I hate it when they make comparisons to the B747, as they are different aircraft for different eras, and it serves to purpose.

The downside for Airbus seems to be that they have needed to invest very heavily in operational support with the airlines, which will not help an already very expensive program. Turning a profit seems a long way off at present.

Overall you would have to say that things are looking good for the A380 in operation.
