Hi all,

A few questions regarding spotting from Qantas Drive for aircraft landing on rwy 16R.

- How good would a wide angle lens be right under the flight path? e.g. Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
- how good is the location after midday if I am facing east?
- any advice for taking photos from that location?

G'day guys,

As Chris said, the late afternoon facing east provides really good light, if you can get a clear day with no clouds at all the sunset and the colours are really incredible

Here are some pictures I have got from Qantas Drive facing east in the afternoon:

Most of those were taken just before sunset. In my opinion it is a really good place for afternoon spotting when it is clear and when 16R is in action.

Chris and Michael, I must say they are excellent pics. I am thinking of heading out to Qantas Drive early tomorrow morning to catch the arrivals if you're keen? In particular I'd like the Qantas A380, BA 747, Virgin A340, Singapore A380, Emirates 777 and I know it departs later but the Emirates A380 too.

Whereabouts do you come from? I'm currently staying in Wahroonga... Not sure about the evening, but will try and let you know if I am.

@Chris G: Did you use a ladder for that image? Great elevated angle!

Hi,
Might have, it was taken at a time when I was using a ladder. Might have been a milk crate.

Cheers

Chris

Evidently I spoke too soon about tomorrow, I'm now super busy with not just my own work, but we have urgent reporting to do for the executive... I'll be at work until at least 6:00pm... :( Can't make it. :(

Turns out I can't make it either and the weather isn't ideal this morning...
