Goodbye "Windsor Town"

A friend send me a couple of photos taken at Richmond last Tuesday. A20-627 is being dismantled by a bobcat and soon to be returned to you as Coke cans. In the second photo, A20-624 "Richmond Town" (blue tail) is seen in the far background, not sure which a/c is the one on the right.

Both went to the RAAF on 30/03/79 - so they lasted another 30 years after their 11 years or so with Qantas.

A sad day... I remember as a young lad leaving Australia for the first time en-route to Butterworth on one of these magnificent flying machines, and 3 years latter being delivered safely back to Sydney.

According to the ADF website, A20-627 will live on in part.

The forward section ahead of the wing will be restored by Omega Air Transport and presented for display to the Air Force Museum at Point Cook.

The remaining two have been FAA readied are due to be delivered / taken to the US by Omega pilots by the end of this year. If anyone can get their departure dates i'd love to know in advance.

Me too - flew Sydney - Penang on my way there and Butterworth - Darwin - Sydney on the way back 3 years later - and some other flights in between times. Sad to see the old workhorses gone. :(
