I head this callsign (or at least fairly certain it was Pirate) with an american accent, make a TACAN 10 approach to richmond this arvo, before heading to willytown.
Any ideas what it was? I was thinking perhaps a Wedgetail? I dunno if they'd be flying yet though, and I thought 2SQN's callsign used to be Magpie in any case?

Any help appreciated :)

Could have been a 77Sqn Hornet as they use pirate i believe. They are up Brisbane and Willie way at the moment for ecadex09 if im not mistaken.

One of the Wedgetails took off at Williamtown today(Thurs) at about 1.30pm but tracked out to the North-East over water. She hasnt come back as of 6pm. There was also a P-3 Orion with an odd Green Celebratory tail assuming it was RAAF which is still parked there. The other Wedgetail is also still parked at NTL.

It was a F18, very loud as it screamed over the Coles carpark in Richmond on final for 10.

Cheers guys, never knew the 77SQN Hornets used it, I've only ever heard the 2OCU "Maple" used around Richmond.
