Did PR210 have to return to Sydney today? Was just looking up international arrivals and departures on the Sydney Airport website; arrivals for Philippines Airlines included PR209 from Manila & Melbourne at 10.20am , PR210 from Sydney at 7.15pm and PR211 at 7.55pm. Departures were PR210 sceduled at 12.15pm, actual departure 3pm and PR212 at 9.40pm. I guess the arrivals from "Sydney" caught my eye.

I noticed a Philippines Airlines plane parked in the GA section of Sydney Airport just after 12 noon today when I went to Maccas to get lunch. May be related.

There are two Philippine Airlines to Sydney and Melbourne on Mondays and Wednesdays, although they leave Manila on different days. The second flight would account for the evening departures, although it looks as though the day flight was delayed to 3:00 pm.

Anyone know the details? One report suggested that landing gear could not be retracted. There seems to be a paucity of information ...

It was circling the illawarra for quite a while with landing gear extended, but I haven't seen confirmation as to whether that was the issue itself or an attempt to increase fuel burn to reach landing weight
Rowan McKeever

From this Avherald report it seems an hydraulic issue was the case, including inability to retract gear, loss of nosewheel steering and loss of some reversers.
