Sydney Aviation Model Show
1st and 2nd May 2010
Hangar 273
Bankstown Airport
This will be our 5th show and we are learning from each and every show that has been run to date.
There are a few changes for the next show.
Our biggest change is we have moved the show to a larger size venue.
The passenger terminal served us well but we were fast out growing it and we have chosen an aircraft hangar at Bankstown Airport for our next show!
The hangar will accomodate more stands that will be generally bigger than stands at previous shows.
Added extras this time will be the addition of a static aircraft apron for attendees to enjoy as well as an operational aircraft display.
This will include some aircraft that will be open to the public and it's all included in the show entry fee.
Operational aircraft will be offering joy flights and these include our regular
R44 helicopter the Dragonfly Jet, Birddog, Cheiftan and a few more!
We also have a classic car collection on display that will include rare porsches, ferraris and others!
Kids entertainment will also feature with a jumping castle and face painting free for all attendees.
One of Australia's largest airline models will also be on display, a 1/16 scale
A330-200 which is almost 4m long!!!
I hope you can get out to the show!

It's abit far ahead as far as my work roster goes, but now I reside in Sydney, I hope to make it to this event.
Such modelling events are particularly hazardous for me, and end up contributing extra scratches to my Debit Card, as well as a lighter bank balance :D

26th March 2010, 08:05 AM

Are you going to start chargiing Danny advertising rates? ;)
Danny Rizk
15th April 2010, 04:31 PM
The scenic flight is being run at below running cost just to allow people the experience of such a flight...
The show will also be contributing to great charities (Angel Flight and Careflight) and is not a profitable event... ;)

Dumb question but whereabouts on the airport grounds is the hangar/new location for the show?

The plan was to fly out to Bathurst this morning, however cloud on the ground at Mt Victoria put an end to that. So while I waited for the weather to improve, I had a walk around the show to see what was on offer. By 11am things were looking brighter so I managed a few circuits in the Archer III, my first time in this model.
Although the day was very overcast, here is some of what was on display (hopefully a brighter day tomorrow) .....

I assume it'll be morning by the time you all read this!
I was there this morning, and had to leave at 1230 to go to work, and I'll have to do the same later today (Now that it's Sunday). I showed up with no expectations or demands, and hence, had a great day, and was pleased to see a few aircraft present, particularly HARS' Catalina. Definitely the highlights:
*Walking through the Catalina, unlike in Canberra or Albion Park, myself and fellow board member Jaryd, sat in the Catalina for over half an hour chatting with the friendly volunteer, who's probably convinced us to join up and give them a hand
*Discounted Just Planes DVDs ($30 each!), including the two Australian titles with Regional Express and Virgin Blue
*Plenty of diecast models and plastic ones for sale
*All exhibitors are very friendly to have a chat to.
*Careflight have these great polo shirts and jumpers on sale for $20 each, what a bargain, and it all goes to Careflight! :)
For those coming today, please note, there is no ATM there, being an aircraft hangar! So prior to me showing up today, I ducked by the local Post Office in Georges Hall and made a reasonable cashout withdrawal (Having spent bugger all of it today!).
I'll be back later today, bought a 2 day pass to make the most of the 4 or so hours I have avaliable this weekend to come to this.

Just saw the photos posted by Grahame, and he's managed to snap me in the shot standing at the Careflight stand behind the Jetcar, with my CSU TV jumper on.

Just saw what looked like the Aeropelican BAe 3201 flying due south quite low over Mona Vale. Maybe flying into Bankstown, or on the scenic flight from Bankstown.

You are correct Keiren. I was lucky enough to be on the flight today - it was definently worth it. The weather was magnificent - we tracked north over Parramatta, Hornsby, and then to Woy Woy, down the coast down to the harbour, and then back the same direction. Thanks to the nice people at Aeropelican :) for the flight, it was fabulous.
The rest of the show was good - I came in from the north so those signs directing us was very helpful.

Sarah, you tracked directly overhead my house at Mona Vale at around 1500-2000ft, you would have had a spectacular view, the beaches and ocean looked great on such a beautiful sunny day. Does the BAe 3102 have one seat either side of the aisle ? and how many passengers ?

The view was amazing. I was in a middle seat so didn't get the best pictures but I enjoyed just taking it all in.
Seat config is 1-2 - One seat on the left, 2 on the right. Total of 19 passengers all up. Hopefully they do the flights again in the next show - they were great value considering what is charged for many scenic flights over the city.

Hi all
Came back again today, when the weather cleared up much better and there was more happening, such as the departure of the Cessna Dragonfly and the Jetcar being dusted off. The following are my photos over the two days.

That's about it! Would have been much more enjoyable for me if I didn't have to duck off to work, but other than that, Danny, thank you and your staff for your efforts and investment into these exhibitions, please know I had a great time and I'll be at the next one you want to run.

Excellent photos Maikha - awesome stuff!
I'd share mine but their's nothing that hasn't already been seen. I too had a great time at the show (yesterday) and will make sure I'm on that Aeropelican Scenic Flight next time I think :)

Wow, looked liked an awesome event. Unfortunately I was away with work and got back late last night. Well I shouldn't say it was unfortunate I had a great time away with work. Maikha im speechless, really nice shots. I really appreciate your skill and enjoy viewing your photos. Well done to all involved.

Thanks Tony and Dan, much appreciated! The scene of the first shot at the time was just screaming to be photographed, and I'm so glad I did, as that's been the best shot of all the weekend for me.
I also just noticed your profile photo and it gave me a chuckle. I hope that's not a military standard! :p
