It's unusually early in the season to be getting enough bats around to warrant it on the ATIS, but there have been a few active colonies around Sydney lately, especially in the Janalli area. Bats have also been seen in large numbers near the Kogarah Golf Course in the early evening.

March to May is the usual bat strike season.

I suspect there may have been a couple of bat strikes just after dark.

Was walking along Qantas Drive a few weeks back and there was hordes of bats flting accross the 16R approach. Was surprised it wasn't mentioned earler.

You should see the Notam for Mackay airport. In once instance in a report they put out, 1500+ flying foxes crossed the aerodrome within 10 minutes.

I suspect that, in April/May 2010, there may be some additional movements with a Camp in Sydney being given an eviction order by way of noise disturbance...
