JQ Domestic have new services beginning March 7, April 4, July 1 and July 8. I think there is an operational spare in with that lot, so that would be 5 of the 8 aircraft. Are the other 3 for International?

Malcolm Parker

I think a few months ago , it was reported 2 were meant for Jetstar Asia, and 1 meant for their Vietnam operation. However this has probably changed, given the Vietnam iproblems (regulatory) the operation has been having.

JQE has left Aus for Singas several wks ago, and JQH & JQW will also be going back home to Singapore in 2010. That's how the numbers work out.

Great shot Michael - is the wing obscuring it or is it missing the foxtel bulge on the top of the airframe?

Darren,
I think VH-VUU has not been equipped with Foxtel Live2Air yet? VH-VUT is the latest one before VUU in service with VB & it hasn't been fitted with it yet so i highly doubt that it has been fitted with it. I'm happy to be corrected.

Zac M
29th April 2010, 09:43 PM
Nothing after VUN has been fitted

Raymond Rowe

From the sound of it is being fased out.

Darren Butterworth
29th April 2010, 11:13 PM
Damn - I'll miss channel 13 to note max speed and altitude on each trip for my log.:(

Not to mention that I don't mind swiping the work amex for live2air on anything over the Melb or Bris Flts, but I guess if I was VB I wouldn't invest my capital on any further rollouts based on my perceived usage by most pax.

Brendan Lawrence
30th April 2010, 12:00 AM
I also notice that there is no 'flying-the-flag' lady on the forward fuselage. You can see the name 'Lady Blue-tiful' as someone mentioned... but no lady!

Perhaps she is yet to be stuck on? Or perhaps the lady is no-more?

Damian N
30th April 2010, 08:30 AM
I have a feeling I've read on this forum in the past that the 'lady' on the nose is airbrushed on by a Sydney artist after delivery. I think all photos of VB planes in Seattle or Brazil prior to delivery tend to show no Virgin 'lady'.

Steve Jones
30th April 2010, 08:34 AM
Re Live2Air, just a personal view but I think they'd be better off with a decent AVOD system such as you see on the big international carriers.

I'd far prefer watching a movie, some full sitcom episodes, or listening to some albums on my flight rather than watching some Foxtel show which is already halfway through and which i can't pause... As for news covereage, there are some good live text news services already available on the good AVOD systems.

Michael Dawson
30th April 2010, 07:43 PM
Nose art is applied after delivery and before entry into service. I agree Steve it would be good to see some sort of AVOD system. Maybe RED like V Australia and Virign America would be good and bring all products into line.

Cheers

I seem to recall there was one A380 due this month and then another 1/2 in Q1 of next year. This article seems to present a different view. Have they all been brought forward to December 2010 and the deliveries in 2011 will be less than initially indicated or have I got the bull by the horns and misread the prior posts on delivery schedule ?

According to Casa they got 15 E-190s and all 6 E-170s, with 3 E-190s still on order sometime the other question we can ask is what aircraft will replace the E-170 routes when they are sold as some routes are too thin for the larger E-190 they maybe dropped altogether. For example TSV-CNS and TSV-ROK.

Oliver, it may be nothing, but I saw JTS parked in front of the Air New Zealand maintenance hangers this morning on my return from Auckland. I read somewhere on here (I think, maybe in the new deliveries section) that ZK-JTS will become VH-TJZ. I belive ZK-ZQD 737-838 is not far from delivery either.

As part of the Qantas Yearly report annoucement another forum has supplied the following info:

1. Big investment in WA FIFO ops with 10 Fokker 100's for Network, 2 more B717's and 5 leased B737-800's over a 2-3 year period.

2. There are outstanding orders for 33 B737-800's with first due in April.

Oliver Gigacz
17th February 2011, 03:49 PM
Here is the Qantas media release.

The Qantas Group announced it would boost its domestic, resources charter and international fleets to support ongoing growth and operational efficiencies across its flying businesses.

Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alan Joyce, said a combination of new aircraft orders and leases, as well as lease extensions, would position Qantas, Jetstar, and the recently acquired Network Aviation, to take advantage of new market opportunities.

"The Qantas Group has a very strong, but still flexible, domestic and international aircraft order book," Mr Joyce said.

"Today we are announcing significant moves that will build on this strength and meet our strategic needs in the short to medium across, particularly in the domestic and Asian markets."

Key points of the fleet plan update, which covers the period through to the end of FY13:
* the lease of five additional B737-800s, and the extension of leases on two B737-800s, for Qantas
* the lease of 10 additional A320s, and the extension of leases on 11 A320s, for Jetstar
* the lease of one A330-200 for Jetstar
* the purchase of 10 Fokker 100s for Network Aviation
* the lease of two additional B717s for QantasLink

"With the domestic market continuing its strong post-GFC recovery and growth, the Qantas Group will need additional capacity to participate in this growth and maintain its profit maximising 65 per cent domestic market share," Mr Joyce said.

"Much of these fleet additions will be directed to this key part of our operations - across each of our premium and low fare airlines, as well as Network Aviation operating fly-in-fly-out resource charter services in Western Australia.

"More A320s, as well as another wide-body A330-200, will ensure Jetsar maintains its place as the country's largest low fare airline and, along with Jetstar Asia, is best positioned to continue to drive the Group's Pan-Asian strategy.

"Our intention from day one has been to grow Network, and today's announcement will increase its F100 fleet five-fold."

Last year Qantas launched a wide-ranging domestic refresh which includes inflight product changes, the roll-out of faster, smarter Next Generation Check-in and lounge upgrades.

"Qantas now has 33 B737-800s on order, including the five announced today," Mr Joyce said.

"Operating primarily on Australian domestic routes, but also across the Tasman, all will have this latest product offering, including individual seat-back inflight entertainment screens for all customers, further cementing the airline's 'best for business' market position."

Qantas' first domestic B737-800 with this new offering will be delivered in April, and the first to also feature new Boeing Sky Interiors, including mood lighting and improved overhead luggage space, will arrive later this year.

QantasLink's B717 fleet will grow to 13 aircraft, ensuring Australia's leading regional airline is able to take advantage of new opportunities.

Couple of questions...

Will Network paint the F100s in a Qantas livery?
Is Jetstar getting any more A321s?

Jarden S
17th February 2011, 08:23 PM
Great news that they are expanding on many fronts, more 717s was a suprise as they sold a few to Hawaiian not long ago. I thought they were going to get rid of the type. They could deploy them on MEL-LST and start MEL-AYQ. Only 1 extra A330 for JQ will only give them limited oportunities they could use a lot more. They need to make MEL-BKK up to daily, could even start MEL-NRT or will they use it to ATH and FCO from SIN.

As voted by Facebook, VH-YFF will be named 'Wineglass Bay'! It begun its delivery flight yesterday, so should be delivered to BNE tomorrow.

From that link
"the aircraft is routing HNL-NAN-CHC for mods with air nz"

For the life of me, I cannot understand why a brand new aircraft has to get mods done before it even enters service....... I have seen it so many times, and just cant work it out..... This one was painted in new colours, delivered to new entity, yet still needs mods.... Can anyone explain why?????... Its not just VA it seems many airlines do the same thing. A pre delivery check should be all that is required.

Simple Mark, many airlines put in equipment, such as IFE or galley items which are supplied separate to the aircraft build contract. Hence why they often go elsewhere before delivery to have these items fitted.

I would imagine there would be some contractual issues if these airline owned items were fitted before they actually own the aircraft.

Fair enough. Thanks for the explanation :)

The boeing timeline cuts off about 18 months before delivery. That means anything you want changed after this time will either delay your delivery or be required to obtain modification at a third party maintenance provider.

There are many other reasons, cost of installation of some items is cheaper away from Boeing.

Also, Boeing may not have FAA approval to install certain modifications e.g. bars in aircraft etc

The reson certain mods are carried by the airlines is as follows:

A: Boeing do not do these mods as they are customised for the airline.

B: The cost would be a lot greater as boeing builds the basic aircraft to customer specs
