Dont get your hopes up guys.
BAC have it as a AN124F not a 225.
About 6 monthes ago this was also rumoured when the first 2 NH90'S arrived from Europe but no it turned out to be a 124F.
Dont get me wrong as i would love it to be a 225.

I've heard this too from someone in ATC, but I might pop out anyway, just in case!

Sorry folks, its just as Lloyd said, no An-225 for you. Its an An-124 coming at the moment as VDA2454.

Hmm, there will be some quite disappointed journalists, including one who I know has booked a flight to BNE on the promise of the AN225 as noted in the press release!

Wonder if its anyone on here. lol.
Kind of glad this didn't happen on Monday and I would have flown up to slight disappointment :p
Still, seeing an AN124 is not the worst thing :)

The local radio stations have started broadcasting that "The worlds biggest plane is coming at 3pm" with some audio from a bloke from Australian Aerospace telling everyone where to get the best look at it - that should cause some nice traffic chaos.

What annoys me about this, as per the United diversion article, where journalists get things terribly wrong, why then does someone in the aviation industry who we can trust, also get it terribly wrong !!!
AS i said before this is the 3rd time the AN 225 was expected to come to Brissie and it didnt.

Just logging 2 Antonov aircraft in the Brisbane area, one is ID as RA-82074 an AN-124
the second shows as UR-80209 but i cant find any rego with that on it.

The radio stations had everyone abit confused up here, they were still saying a 3pm arrival after it ad already landed at about 2pm, there were a few annoyed or disappointed poeple at the loop rd when security came around and informed everyone.

^ Are you sure Montague? I'm sure I've seen it before although on reflection, it may have been in NZ. and yes, I do know the difference between a 124 and a 225)

I saw it in Perth, mind you - it was back in 1989.

Are you sure Lee? Do you have a date or photos ?
I've lived in Perth since January 1988 and my extensive Database of visitors to Perth airport doesn't show an AN225 coming here. I've also cross checked my Database to GW's excellent DVD records (dating back to 1944) and there's no AN225 there either.
We've had numerous Russian AN124s, IL76s and other exotics over the years including the Beriev BA40 jet powered flotplane on 15 November 1992.
Perhaps you were thinking of that one ?

It's probable that my memory is jaded (too many aircraft and places) - I can remember that I took photos of what ever it was climbing out of Perth from the top of Allendale Square on the Terrace. I thought it was a 225 - having some doubt cast on my memories of it - it could have been a 124 .
I'll see if I can find my pics.......

The AN-225 only flew for the first time in December 1988, I don't think it would have gone to PER a year later. I can't find any record of the AN-225 ever visiting Australia, but I'd happily stand corrected.

Bob's correct, in fact the closest the An-225 Mirya has ever got to Australia was back in 1994 when the aircraft was a participant at the Singapore Asian Aerospace Expo, where I attended and photographed it back in 35mm days, it was registered UR-82060 c/n 0101 coded with '387' under nose. I believe that it was also the 1st time the aircraft had ever flown outside of Europe.
As for it not being allowed to Australia; Explain reasoning why please!!!
Cheers GW

Pretty sure it is a certification issue...Liam might be able to shed more light.

Probably some sort of certification issue.
Unless it's a noise issue, then certification wouldn't be a problem. It's not an Australian registered aircraft.
It's quite common to see aircraft getting around Australia, with American registrations on them because when they were purchased, the aircraft were not yet certified in Australia.

It was slated to visit PER a couple of years back, but it was some red-tape from CASA I believe that put the clamps on it. I never got a solid reason, so on that particular occasion we had 2 -124's instead.
