Amazing video, well worth watching to the end. I like the way he lowered the nose gear only very early so they captured all of the approach, all the flap extensions and finally the main gear extension. Nice plume of smoke when the nose wheen touches. The picture is very steady while taxiing, however a bit of speed on takeoff soon shows up all the vibrations along the fuselage.

Never knew that you could actually lower the nose gear by itself?

Cool video!

I like it... Could watch it many times over. Thanks Rod.

Agree Daniel, I know you can rig it so the nose gear comes down independent from the main, but I did not know it operated that way, I thought they would come down together.

I notice the anti collision light does not flash very frequently either.

Never knew that you could actually lower the nose gear by itself?

You can't lower it separately in normal operation. One lever does them all.

However I suspect that knowing the camera was there the pilot carried out an alternate extension on the nose gear only. It is what you use if the hydraulics fail. Lowering the nose only is something you can only do on a classic 747.

A good video none the less.:D

Having been a mech on the 747 for 10 years and still in awe of the beast I have to say that this is one of the greatest videos I have ever seen.
Firstly, cudos to the guy who strapped the camera on the NLG
Secondly, well done for the manual extension of the NLG
Thirdly, well done that it all turned out ok and not a an Investigation
NOTE: Sometimes in life, you have to say WTF I'm just going to do it ;)

This is indeed very nice, especially the advance nose wheel lowering to capture all the action. Impressed that the camera was able to focus on the 'hazardous area' signs inside the nose gear hatch doors as well as capturing the countryside below.

The flight was from Johannesburg, South Africa to Maputo, Mozambique, and we were cleared for a visual approach onto RWY 05 as we were passing FL120 about 25nm out. Airline flying doesn't get much better than this!
