Just appeared on the 9 news is 'a mid-air drama' relating to QF5 which is reportedly circling the city. Can't see it on PP at the moment.

ATC advised emergency vehicles when QF5 was on a 7nm final and would be the next aircraft to land. The aircraft landed safely on Runway 16R, Tender 6 and Car 2 were cleared to enter the runway following the QF5 touchdown. Threshold wind was 180 at 15kts, and ATC requested QF5 to hold on taxiway Alpha and contact the Fire Commander in Tender 6.

ATC advised that a runway check would need to be conducted after the emergency landing.

Channel 7 reported the incident as an engine problem.

Exactly - what a non event. If it happened an hour later, the 6pm news wouldn't go in to hysterics over it.

I couldn't help chuckling over the standard " a passenger reported seeing flames from the engine" comment :D

There was something in that statement as both police and fire brigade received calls from people on the ground reporting a QF 747 with flames from an engine heading out to sea after takeoff.

Sounds like a compressor stall.

My skeptism is related to "the boy who cried wolf" syndrome. Of cause it may well be true

I heard on my scanner from FCC (Fire Control Centre) i.e. Station 2 of ARFFS that the Cronulla Police had called them advising them of this incident. This info was passed to the Fire Commander in Tender 6.

It was a engine surge.

Noticed that VH-OJI was meant to operate the QF15 on Apr02 but went U/S again and VH-OJD operated as QF15D after it arrived this morning from LA. Today's QF15 operated by VH-OJJ
