Two morons from Auburn in Sydney's west have been busted shining a laser at....Polair.
So far, the eldest has been refused bail, but the youngest one was granted conditional bail. Hopefully the book gets thrown at the both of them...at 16 and 18, they know right from wrong. Time to pay for the crime.

There's been a few incidents in recent weeks when Rwy 07 is used for arrivals, but most of them seem to be coming from the Bexley area. With any luck it's the same two twits and the problem might go away until the next moron gets a hold of a laser.

Teens accused of shining laser pointer at plane and police helicopter
From: AAP April 05, 2010 1:08PM

TWO teenagers have been arrested after they allegedly shone a laser pointer at a commercial aircraft and a police helicopter last night.

Police will allege about 7.30pm (AEST) a commercial airliner was flying over the Auburn area in Sydney's inner west when a laser pointer was shone at the plane.

About 9pm (AEST), the crew of a police helicopter were doing patrols over Auburn after receiving reports of the earlier incident when it is alleged a laser pointer was also shone at them.

The Polair officers were able to identify where the laser pointer came from and police from Flemington Local Area Command attended Kulgun Ave, Auburn where they spoke to a group of five people.

Two boys aged 16 and 18 were arrested at the scene and a laser pointer was located and seized by police.

Both youths were taken to Auburn Police Station where they were each charged with acting with intent to prejudice safety of aircraft and the possession and/or use of a laser pointer.

The 18-year-old from Auburn was refused bail and is expected to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.

The 16-year-old from Berala was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Children’s Court on Tuesday 27 April.

Jeez, you must have been "dropped on your head at birth" :D to shine a laser at a plane, let alone Polair. Let shope they get locked up & not a smack on the wrist.

Unfortunately there are still a lot more morons out there.

It seems to be an almost daily occurrence now.

The sooner we round up all these fools the better.

Regards.

Out of all the flying machines up there, it had to be Polair

Surely they wouldn't point a laser at a police car on the ground.

Similarly happened up in Darwin recently, with one imbecile nabbed for his actions: http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2010/04/03/136821_ntnews.html

Polair have been dispatched a bit recently for just this purpose...to catch the idiots. It's good to see they're getting results.

Holding one of them on bail is a good start; lets hope the district magistrate follows this up with a hefty gaol term.

Agree with Nigel - great work by Polair but if the magistrates don't give these idiots the sentence they deserve, it will be a joke. Throw the book at these too.......regardless of their age, they know what they were doing.

They will probably get slapped across the wrist with a wet bus ticket, because they wet the the bed when they were 4 yrs old.

Yep they will be let go with a suspended sentence or some community based rubbish.

Not so sure...there's been no previous convictions for this type of thing in NSW (added after reading the following post by Gerard M) as far as I'm aware (happy to be corrected...with proof), so the magistrate may or indeed should go hard on these two to set a precedence.
They wouldn't be looking so cool behind bars...

Here's one that was sentenced to two years jail in 2008 in Adelaide but you have to love his comments:

The court heard that when police put to Baldetti it was an offence to shine a laser at an aircraft he replied: "What about him shining a big f...ing torch at me."

About time someone got caught, It might make people think before they act now.

Reading that article of the fool in S.A i have to agree on what Morris Iemma said.
"These fools think it's a joke - it's not a joke if you end up blinding a pilot, bringing a plane down, and potentially killing dozens, if not hundreds, of people on the plane and on the ground,"

Some kids/(2% of adults) don't see the affect it will have on them and also their lives if they cause a plane crash. To them they just press "reload game" and everything is back to normal they sometimes forget that life doesn't have a reset button.

Cheers
Matt

Sadly it's no longer DLS and the sun sets earlier... so the m* with the lasers get out earlier!
