Does anyone know if they still operate out of Bankstown?

Nigel, I think they shut up shop a few months back, the building looks deserted and there are no aircraft at all in that northeast corner of the airport now. I think I heard that Proflite had closed also (website gone), so things are getting down to only a few operators at Bankstown unfortunately.

Nigel,

unfortunately Grahame's right- they dont operate anymore. My old old school so was a bit of a shame- the planes were sold off apparently at auction- none are remaining of the companys old fleet on the corner of birch/marion there.

Proflite, SFTC some of the noteable others too

Ok thanks. We used to get them in to do flight radio ops certificates at work a few years ago. They'd send an instructor out to do the course. I guess we'll have to look elsewhere now.

Cheers.

Nigel,

I've heard you on the radio while your at work. If it was up to me, you'd be automatically certified. :D

C172RG VH-NCH made a fleeting appearance, landing on Rwy 16L and departing off Rwy 16R half an hour later after what can only be suspected as a KK run.

NCH used to fly in a fair bit as part of foreign airline cadet students training.. fair landing fee to get cta practice:D

I'll try and dig up a photo from years back, but I have a shot of a Cessna doing a glide about 10ft above 34L and then going up again to continue on its merry way. It was abit of a quiet time in the afternoon though so I don't suspect it has much impact on the Cessna's larger friends.

If it serves me correct, it's tragic to see that Bankstown is now down to what, 6 Flying Schools? Basair, Schofields, Illawarra, Whitworth, Pacific Air Services and Clamback & Henessy. In my short time I've spent there with flight training, I get the nasty impression things aren't going to improve, considering we've found out today they will now be charging for parking throughout the airport!

Read it all in the Metro Flyer (The Airport's Newsletter) here (http://southerndesign.createsend.com/t/ViewEmailArchive/y/9EEFE968DF1612D2/C67FD2F38AC4859C/#72BACC163E9EADAE)

Parking at Sydney Metro Airport Bankstown

Bankstown Airport Limited will be introducing parking controls on Sydney Metro Airport Bankstown from mid 2010 onwards.

These controls will provide areas for staff and visitor parking and ensure that emergency access ways are free from parked cars. Part of these parking controls will be the introduction of Pay for Parking, requiring all users of the Airport to either purchase a parking permit or pay for casual parking.

The initial roll out of ’pay for parking’ will occur on the northern side of the airport prior to extending airport wide and is expected to be in place later in 2010.

Over the next few months we will be talking to tenants and airport users about their parking requirements and the proposed parking changes on our Airport.

Edit: 6 schools, not 5, sorry Schoies!

Don't forget Schofields! ;)

You are absolutely correct, and I've updated my post accordingly. How on earth could I forget them, considering their fleet! :p

Which radio? I presume you mean ATC radio? If you heard our company radio, you'd most definately put me in for certification and probably find me a new 'home' too!;)

Flying schools are falling over at Bankstown unfortunately. I'm a victim of Proflite's recent demise, though Sydney Aviation College is supposed to be dusting itself off and going it's own way apparently.

Air Spirit Australia (ASA) is another school on the Tower side of the airport but not very prominent as I think they're just starting to get themselves out there.
