The 1st of May saw contract held by Air Atlanta to ops MASkargo flights expire. Southern Air took over the contract (reportedly only until the end of the year)

Today's MH6201 is being ops by 743F.

Thanks Liam ; interesting news so there might be a chance we will see a B777F of Southern Air at some stage.

Stefan Perkas
4th May 2010, 09:29 AM
Hi Tim,

I'm not sure, the last photo of it I found in March 2010, it was all white. but I don't no if it has titles on it or not.

If this is the case of Southern Air doing the contract then the one you may want to keep an eye out for is N704SA as seen below at LAX in November 2009.

The one that arrives this morning was all white - no markings that I could see from a distance. It didn't match Michael's photo.

Thanks for the info Liam.
Wonder how long this contract will last, as MAS will get there own A330F's in a few years, to run along side the 744F.

Good timing! Was out in the garden and heard this a/c - quite noisy and saw the 743 overhead at around 11:40. Quick check of the SBS log confirmed N789SA.

NO you wont, those are on lease or will be leased to THAI Cargo!

Nice shot Jayden. Does anyone know if they also have DC8s 70 series? If so is there a chance of seeing them out.

Thought I saw a 743 departing of 34Left from the office window ... looked twice - thought it was TF-AAA/B then noticed the Extended Upper Deck and no winglets.

Unfortunately they do not. Only 747's and the 77F's that are leased to Thai Cargo.

Bob C
5th May 2010, 04:31 AM
Thanks Brian ; I was aware of the lease to Thai but read that Southern may be getting some more B777Fs.

There are a couple in storage so perhaps Southern may have its eyes on those airframes. And Air France is reassessing its cargo ops and has already sold two B777Fs to FedEx so perhaps that may be another source.

Anyone happening to grab some photos of VH-ZRM arriving into YSSY yesterday about 11am. If so, could I please have a copy of the photo. I was on that flight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ep07DW0hHPA)

Nigel C
12th May 2010, 08:09 AM
Why? Was ZRM in the belly of the MASKargo bird? That's the only way I can link these 2 topics:confused:

Jayden Laing
12th May 2010, 10:17 AM
No Nigel. Phil.L asked if anyone got a shot of N738SA yesterday. ZRM arrived a couple of minutes before N738SA departed so I asked the question here instead of making a new POINTLESS thread ;)

Peter Agatsiotis
18th May 2010, 09:07 AM
Can't find MH6207 on FlightStats but there is MH6203 delayed till 10am so this could be it or one of MasKargo's kites!

From the last two Tuesday's logs it would normally leave between 11am and 1130 but they both came in a lot earlier.

Weather is clearing in some parts so could turn out okay.

Peter Agatsiotis
18th May 2010, 09:25 AM
Now on PP approx 180nm northwest of SYD so looks like an arrival at around 10am so may go out about 12:30 -1pm. N761SA confirmed.

Afternoon guys,

N761SA diverted to Adelaide this afternoon enroute SYD-KUL, apparently due to smoke in the cockpit. It may be here for a little while.

Here is my shot of it in Adelaide.

Excellent photo, thanks! I only caught it out of the corner of my eye whilst stuck in a meeting, so I didn't see what it was, beyond a white 747 that is...

She arrived ADL at 13:58 today.

Evening all,

FUurther to my post on the previuos page, The 3rd MH flight for the day arrived at 1830t. MH6201 was the flight it is operted by a B743 so Southern Air. So I presume it is the one that has visited before.

David M
18th May 2010, 09:01 PM
As previously mentioned, N761SA diverted into ADL due smoke behind the cockpit.

Aparently caused by some sort of battery in that area. (avionics perhaps?) The battery is said to have completely failed.
At the time the aircraft was near Broken Hill and had initially seriously considered diverting into BHQ. Not too sure if the pavement would have survived the landing, but it would have been interesting should the decision have been made to go there. The smoke then abated and the situation was downgraded and the aircraft diverted to ADL.

Given that BHQ's main runway is 8251 feet am I assuming that this is enough for a 742 to land (as they would not have considered it otherwise) but is it enough to depart?

All I know at this stage.. would love to find out more.

We quite often see the freighters depart in a little over 1100m at Sydney, so I imagine 8000' would be plenty

Hi all,

I am curious as to what happened that MH6208 didn't happen today, Saturday. I was at the airport from 0715 to 1740, and was disappointed that the expected Southern Air 74 did not appear.
Otherwise, I think I outsmarted the weather and had a great day!

Cheers John
