As Boeing follows Airbus’ lead to increase 737 production, the focus is not just on the fact that the increase will commence over a year later than the increase earmarked for the A320 family, but that there is a feeling that the rate rise could be a double-edged sword - but not in the traditional sense.
By accelerating deliveries from 2012 onwards, it could well be that Boeing passes over the re-engine strategy altogether and looks to a clean sheet design instead, which would leverage better fuel burn savings with the fuel efficient engines being promoted in the GTF and LEAP-X. Continues
