Matt Hall has had an incident during Round 4 (Detroit) of the Red Bull Air Race series.

Matt's wing touched the water, but thankfully he was able to recover it and fly away.

Wow, lucky escape indeed.

Pity, he has been racing pretty well this season!

Just saw the footage. An amazing recovery. The port wind touched the surface, followed by the tail wheel and the right main gear. Very luvky the main gear didnt dig in or he would be swimming.

Not sure what the future will be for him in racing for the rest of the year, I get the impression that they really really crack down on incidents like this. What happened to they pilot who almost hit the dirt in Arizona(?)

Steve Jones is who you are referring to, I think. He commentates on TV now...lol!

He'll be back, don't worry!

In relation to TV though, in case anyone didn't know, Fox Sports are doing live coverage of the air race now! :D

Video with Hall's own explanation located here: http://www.redbullairrace.com/cs/Satellite/en_air/Video/Halls-amazing-recovery-021242857873001?refmod=ContentFeed&refmodpos=A3

From all reports he'll have the aircraft inspected, repaired and ready for racing by the next round in New York.
