Hi all
Was getting ready for work when I could hear what was an enormously loud jet of some form, that definitely didn't sound like the 'rest of them'. Went outside to take a look, to see one flying overhead that wasn't like the rest.
It either was a Business jet of some form (A Dassault) or something close to a 717, but was delightfully low and echoing for several minutes as it continued to climb, very soothing to listen to :)
More so, would anyone know what this aircraft was? I suspect it was a Biz Jet of some form that's departed Bankstown, but not overly sure.
Thanks!

I saw it too when I was driving on Alfords Point Road towards Padstow Heights, was trying to work out which flight it was (B717/MD-90).

Wow, no wonder it sounded very nice for several minutes!
Any reason for the daytime flight? I would love the chance to see this aircraft during the day, but it seems they're only night owls?

Try Saturdays...you'll occasionally get a day flight, and they park at the DOM-6 area.

There's nothing like the sight of the smoke trails trailing her just after take-off. Adds a nice touch to the roar of pure American muscle:D

Thanks Nigel, fingers crossed I might be able to sight one before they disappear from our skies, thanks to our Government!
Russell, out of curiosity going by your signature, you going for your GFPT or PPL now? I'm slowly chipping away at a GFPT over on the Southern side of the aerodrome.

They quite often carry racehorses over from NZ and occaisonally will arrive around 9.30 and as Nigel said they park over by DOM-6. Quite an experience if you have to pick up a pony as well, you get to drive across the airport apron past the domestic terminal, its an expensive Tarmac Tour I suppose :p

The DHL 727 did make a daytime trip from AKL yesterday. I saw it returning last night.

Hey Maikha, yeah I'm only up to GFPT since I'm doing it part-time due to uni commitments. I'll be sitting the BAK exam in a week or so, and hopefully get the GFPT flight test out of the way as well before uni begins. Otherwise, it will be another long wait until end of November during the uni summer break :(
All the best though with your training. I'm guessing you are part-time as well??
Oh and also, if you are lucky by "the Beach" or "Shep's mound", you might see VH-DHE departing from 16R in the mid-afternoon of a Saturday/Sunday. I've seen it a number of times departing around the 3pm-ish mark from 16R on a Saturday's spotting ;)

On my way out to YSBK to practice some EFATOs now. Looking outside....
....it's a good day to fly! :D

No problem. But sad to hear the 727 will be leaving our skies in the near future.
Yeah last few days have been great for flying here is Sydney. I've got my next flight on Saturday noon. Will be my first time at the controls in 18 weeks!! Definitely gonna be dusting a few cobwebs.
Do you usually fly any particular aircraft Maikha?? That way in future I can always keep and eye and ear out for the plane/callsign. I'm always in VH-UAK (green and white C152).
Cheers

I'm always in VH-UAK (green and white C152).I fly over at Whitworths, in a Piper Warrior. It seems my last 6 flights (Including today's two) were in VH-IMX, white aircraft with a blue and red stripe along it, so I anticipate my future flights will always be with this reliable bird!

Anything more about the last flight of 727s in our sky?
