Probably get some interesting convos now on the ground frequency especially since the introduction of the new Class D airspace procedures. So confusing really....I had my first taste of the new radio calls today.

I think ground is a joke. It's not required at bankstown. It just wastes time for controllers and pilots.

As I'm only learning still, and I'll do what the rules say, Class D or GAAP.
But I have found since the new Class D procedures came into place, we spend alot of time sitting in the quiet cockpit, waiting for every other bloke (Or lass) to ask for start-up clearence, or taxi clearence, or progressive taxi instructions, or whatever, before we get a chance to get on the frequency and ask it ourselves. Same goes for when we're in the run-up bay.
I'd imagine several other folks around the airport also sitting in their Cessnas or Tecnabs yelling profanities to themselves when they simultaneously transit to someone else as well. Do you do this as well Russell? :D

Hear hear!!! I mean, even the controllers are feeling the pressure. Anything that adds to an already existing heavy workload is sure to bring about tension.

Yeah same here. I don't mind following the rules. But at the same time, I honestly don't think the new rules will lead to very much increase in safety so to speak. I mean, as my instructor mentioned to me yesterday, now everyone is so hell bent on worrying about their radio calls, they are beginning to get distracted from taxiing/flying the aeroplane. Which kind of goes against the old "Aviate, Navigate, and Communicate".
Also Maikha, I too spent an eternity in the run-up bay waiting for a break in the transmissions to get my calls in. And it used to only happen for CCTS on 11R/29L, but now it seems to be the same amount of congestion regardless of whether you are doing ccts or departing via 11C/29C and 11L/29R.:(
However, no profanities from me yet Maikha, but I wasn't too far away hehe:D

Most of the time I find ground quite straight forward still; not too busy for me. But sometimes it just all falls apart. The other night, i was on U1 short of K (for anyone who knows where that is :D), and the controller told me to report at Kilo. Well, i was at Kilo, and when i told the ground that, they seemed so confused. I had to sit there for about 3 minutes for the controller to figure out what is going on. I mean, there was no one in front of me, i could of just taxied very easily to the runups no problem. Again, pointless and confusing.
But that's just my two cents.
Russell and Maikha, where do you guys fly out of?

Oohhhh gosh lol. Yeah i'm kinda going to avoid U1 and as much of A3 as possible. So I'm going to try and keep popping out on M2 whenever I can.
I fly out of Schoies on the North side of BK, close to the B3 taxiway.

i was on U1 short of K (for anyone who knows where that is :D), I'm still trying to get my head around the taxiway numbers. Same goes for many instructors who still carry the maps of the airport with them.
Russell and Maikha, where do you guys fly out of?Whitworth Aviation, South side of the airport. VH-IMX has been my steed for the past couple of weeks.

Russell, do you fly with Stu? He was my instructor at the start of the year.
I'm at the uni, flying those ugly diamond things around, however, they are very nice on the inside :P

G1000 inside? Or are they steam powered gauges, like the Piper Warriors I'm watching from?

No sorry Jason. My instructor is Chris Pearl, but I have seen Stu around quite a bit.
I'm guessing by uni you mean the UNSW BAv (Flying stream)??? Are you in the same year as Nick W or are you a third year??? I got accepted to the BAv (flying) but I ended up picking Medical Science instead.
Yeah Schoies recently added a DA20 and DA40 to our fleet, VH-DIV and VH-DUI if memory serves me right. They look pretty sleek, almost like a Cirrus. My dad always asks me why I still bother flying the C152s (VH-UAK and VH-JNB) when there are some nice new shiny birds available haha.
I'll probably finish my GFPT and PPL on the 152 before switching to the Warrior and then the Arrow (for the constant speed retractable u/c endorsement).

Yeah i'm in the same year as Nick. A lot of work this degree is, but it will pay off i hope
