Hi all

I am off to Longreach to visit the museum just for 1 day . On the web page they have a multitude of options . The options are
Museum only
Secrets of 747 Tour only
707 Restoration Tour only
747 Secrets and Wing Walk Tour
Museum and 747 Secrets Package
Museum and 707 Restoration Package
Museum and Jet Tours Package (747 and 707)
Jet Tours Package (747 Secrets and 707 Restoration)
Museum and 747 Secrets with Wing Walk Package

Does anyone have any advice on the best options and/ or any other advice :o
Totally off topic can anyone recommend somewhere to eat in Longreach ?

Hi Brett,

Do all the tours and entry, which is the The Ultimate Tour package (Includes ALL Admissions and Tours). It is the only way to do it and you can do them all in one day. You just have to schedule when you do them.

Do all the tours, they are really good and pretty well run.
The only downside is that you are not allowed to take photos of the inside of the 707 (it's a contractual thing).

When I was up there last October, we got some good food at the Merino Bakery - fresh sandwiches, rolls, focaccias all made to order (massive menu to order from), pies, sausage rolls, etc.

If your not interested in doing the wind walk of the 747, just do the Secrets tour, you will pretty much see everything.

Try the sasauge roll in Bacon from the Bakery, best one Iv'e ever had!

I agree - I did the whole lot and it was well worth it.

I would suggest you ring up and book.

Afternoon all,

A couple of spotting mates recently ventured to the Qantas Founders Outback Museum (QFOM) which has finally taken delivery of its Consolidated PBY-6A Catalina, VH-EAX. They sent through a couple of pics of VH-EAX as well as the other aircraft on show... I have posted these on the Blog...

I know I'm looking forward to getting back out there!

Cheers

The actual Museum Cafe was pretty good if I remember. Licensed as well. The main bakery in town was pretty good !

Kim is referring to the Merino Cafe - that place is sensational! But the McGuiness Restaurant is nice for a feed - the breakfast is great and keeps you going all day.

Just to let everyone know Qantaslink have a sale and it includes Longreach :) And note in that trip report that the 747 tail has recently been repainted - it was looking very faded a few months ago but finally got the funding and resources to repaint it.
