I think this has been posted before but for the last 3 weeks Air North E-170 VH-SWO, Skytraders A-319 VH-VHD, and Ba-146 ZK-ECO.

RAAF 737 (A36-001) and Bae-146 (ZK-ECO) both arrived Townsville yesterday from Cairns as Julia Gillard is in Townsville today. I spotted both around 11am this morning parked at the military apron when I drove past the airport.

It seems A36-001 has since departed and ZK-ECO is still here. I believe Julia is overnighting in Townsville and departs tomorrow morning.

ZK-ECO has also now departed.

Looks like Julia has left town.

So the Australian PM flys in a New Zealand registered aircraft??:p

Is RAAF 737 (A36-002) also used for politicians?

I thought it was the journalists that go in the 146 and the PM goes in the RAAF BBJ

The two RAAF BBJ's are for Julia Gillard and she has also used VH-VHD
VH-SWO is for Tony Abott
and ZK-ECO is for media

Has anyone calculated the 'carbon footprint' that Julia's election campaign jetsetting ways will leave? And has she outlined any plans to reduce or compensate for this footprint?

i remember back in 07 one of the news channels done a little doco on the day of the PM (john howard) and the opposition leader (kevin rudd) and it mention that both parties had the advantage of having BBJ each for the entire election campaign.

happy to be corrected.

Well, she is making the most of the $50 million jet that the rodent felt he needed to have...Tony will be setting off to Canberra today, by jet, from Sydney..

It might have to come back yet, we might have to have another one, http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/evil.gif.

Hi All,

Slightly off topic, why doesn't the Australian Governement replace the 737BBJ with an B767-300ER or even a A332?

This would then reduce the need for another A/C to service the Media and also reduce the Carbon Footprint that 2 jets make. (Not that I am a Greenie)

....and also reduce the Carbon Footprint that 2 jets make.

Unfortunately there is pretty much a zero care-factor in this case when it comes to the Carbon Footprint. If they wanted to reduce their carbon footprint they would.

Although I guess their scheduling media/MPs would be a factor behind their 2-jets approach.

Is it know who pays for their media's flights and aircraft?
Do the media companies all chip-in and hire the flight crew and aircraft or is it taxpayer funded?

Hi Glenn what was that aircraft on the right of both photos?

The aircraft on the right is VH-VHD. The aircraft in the photo is actually an RAAF BBJ so it is probably Gillard, I believe that Abbot was getting around in E170 VH-SWO

I think stuart that the ADF and Canberra, were or are, still looking at replacing the BBJ's with a bigger aircraft possibly a A332.Reason behind it was that Garuda 737 that crashed a couple years back where 5 or so Aussie journo's and officals i think, passed away on that flight.Im not sure [but happy to be corrected if not the case],Is that RAAF still have options avaliable to them with the KC-30 MRTT's and could possibly convert those options from KC-30 to one or two VIP transport aircraft,or could keep those options for KC-30's and use one for the Goverment when prime minister needs to hitch a ride somewhere overseas, much like the 707's when they were around. But im not sure when the time was up on these options to be taken up by the RAAF.
