Qantas yesterday filed with the IASC for an extra 166 seats a week to China so from mid-January 2011 it can upgrade some services from A330 to B747. Qantas says this is for the Northern Winter 2010 scheduling season.

Does Qantas expect marginal higher demand or is an A330 needed elsewhere?

It would be great to see the A330 on the Honolulu run. Having an ageing 763 on SYD-HNL route is disgraceful.

Just in time for Chinese New Year.
So that would make 5pw on A330 and 2pw on the 744. I am guessing FRI and SUN for the 744 given that it is already impossible to get business class on some of these flights a few weeks out.

Would be great to get A330 on the Perth-Japan runs. 763 not cutting it.

Qantas just dosen't have enough A330s in their fleet to do all these routes.

Hi All,

QF have the A330's if they switched the A332's from Domestic to International, and then moved the B763, back to Domestic.

Why do they need A332's doing the MEL-SYD-MEL Shuttle?

My guess is that the A332s on the MEL-SYD-MEL shuttles are generally doing those in between their international rotations so even if they weren't doing those shuttle runs, they wouldn't have enough spare time in their schedules to do another international run.

Also if they not retire any of their 767-300s and kept all 36 for domestic operations there would be around 10 A330s free for international operations.

There is plenty of spare International configured 332/333 capacity. Two of the 14 International 330 fleet are currently rostered for trans-Continental Domestic flights daily:
