SINGAPORE Airlines' decision to stick with premium services is paying off as it launches a second A380 daily service from Sydney in October.

Singapore maintained its focus on business and first class travel during the global financial crisis even as other airlines, including Qantas, announced plans to reduce or ditch first class.

It now says the market has proved its decision to be right, and the company is looking at putting another superjumbo on the Melbourne route.

Not before time either!

I have said this before, probably not on this Forum though ;)

The current mis-match of products on the route is very poor!

MEL-SIN
SQ218 777-300ER
SQ228 B777-300 (Old interior) and moving to B747-400 shortly
SQ238 A380

SQ218 Departs MEL 00:05 Arrives SIN 06:00
SQ228 Departs MEL 15:45 Arrives SIN 21:40
SQ238 Departs MEL 10:10 Arrives SIN 16:10

Flights to London
Depart SIN at 09:05, 12:45 & 23:30

To get the new interiors you need to either get SQ218, which leaves MEL at 00:05 OR SQ238 the 10:10 flight from MEL

SQ218 - Leaves at midnight, 3 hours in SIN and then off to London
SQ238 - Leaves at 10:10 from MEL, then 7 hours in SIN airport.

Most of the departures from SIN onwards are around midnight, so the timing/equipment used from MEL is not the best.

SQ228 needs the A380 - NOW

Andrew, I believe that 9V-SYF which has been operating around 95% of the SQ228's does have a new interior. SQ are refitting most if not all of the 773's. On the odd day that we haven't had -SYF, SQ have put a 777-300ER on most of the flights.

Yes it does, but then it's the regional business class and not the long-haul business class

A inconsistent product, especially up the front is very annoying!

As the article suggests the premium end of the market is paying off!

While it's sad to see the 744's go totally an A380 is a nice addition

As for A380's!

SQ are getting 1 in December and then 2 in Quarter 1 2011.

The one scheduled for delivery in December (MSN058), is likely to slip into Q1 (due to the backlog in Hamburg)
