Dont think this has been mentioned, sorry if it has.

Lufthansa will operate a single charter to Perth, Sydney and Singapore in November for the Berlin Symphonic Orchestra, who will be playing in the three cities.

So the Sydney concert starts on the 16/11 after it concludes in Perth on the 14th, so I guess we're expecting it on the 15th??

It leaves Perth at 11am their time on the 15th.I'll let you guys work it out as i dont know if WA has daylight saving or not ???

An 11am departure from perth makes it an 1800 Sydney time arrival

Hi Lloyd

Daylight Saving was abandoned in the West after a Referendum in 2009.

We didn't have it last summer and it is highly unlikely that it will ever be attempted again and several Referenda over the years have voted against it. But the Pollies still tried it on a few occasions - at least twice in the 22 years I've been in Perth.

So we're now 3 hours behind Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart, 2.5 hours behind Adelaide and Darwin (?) and 2 hours behind Brisbane.

Cheers

Bob

PS - has the rain stopped ?

Stefan Perkas

Perth is 1.5 hours behind Darwin

Afternoon all,

From another forum,

D-ABTF will be the aircraft to fly the orchestra around.

Was originally gonna head out next Monday to try and get this when it comes in, however, it seems something else has come up. I'm hoping to try and get a shot of it departing.

As the last Concert in Sydney is on Saturday 20th November, would I be correct to assume that it'll leave the following morning (Or thereabouts)? If so, any particular time to expect it to?

Thanks all! :)

Is the Lufthansa taking up a Aerobridge gate position while not in use at PER as it seems very close to the terminal.

Benny Zheng

Plane departed Perth at 1156LT as LH5014 using runway 3

Christian Klein
15th November 2010, 03:07 PM
it didn't even use half of runway 03. the controller asked if they wanted to use rwy 06 cause the wind was 100/20G32 but the pilots took rwy 03.

Jarden S: no. it was parked at bay 56 which is a non aerobridge parking position

Initially was at the intl obs deck when the landing direction all changed to 07 due to the pavement problem. Rushed to the domestic terminal and it changed to 16R. What a day... Anyway here it is about to touch down on 16R from the domestic terminal. Also nice to meet you again Chris D.

Nice shots Benny and Chris. I didn't consider that side as I automatically stick to the west side in the afternoons :o Where abouts are they taken from, the road way between the two domestic terminals? Thanks.

I agree that those are great photos. At least one of them should be uploaded to airliners.net, because there are very few shots on that website of any Lufthansa aircraft in Australia.

My understanding is that Lufthansa last operated its own passenger carrying metal to Australia (SYD) in 1995, and that the aircraft used at that time were Condor 767s, not 744s. However, it's possible that 744s were used earlier. In the 1970s and 1980s, LH services to Oz (SYD/MEL) were operated by 707s and 747 classics.

As far as I am aware, no Lufthansa jet aircraft has ever landed at PER before last week. I went out to PER airport on Friday night to look at the aircraft, and it was quite a sight, but it wasn't in a favourable spot for photography, and I couldn't make it back to see the departure on Monday. So I enjoyed watching the video - thanks to Christian for that. And most of all, thanks to the Berlin Philharmonic and LH for bringing the aircraft here for us to see.

who has moved my videos into this thread. i put them into a separate thread for a reason which was to make it easier to get to. now everybody has to look through this 3 page long thread to get to it. good one

Welcome to the Forum Christian.

As you will notice, in order to keep things relative and clean, we tend to keep all related content within one particular thread, so it is in fact easier for others to locate quickly. This way, we don't end up with a cluttered forum with numerous topics spread all over, covering the same content causing confusion. It's not necessary. Thank you for your understanding.

Nice photos guys, anybody know time/day for it's departure and perhaps even most probable runway?

Last concert in Sydney is the 20th November, departure at this stage on the 21st. Weather forecast is for east to north east winds from around midday, so probably 34L.

Peter Agatsiotis
17th November 2010, 06:28 PM
Yes Jeremy you are correct (haven't checked the dates) and we did get a fair few of their 744's.

The last Lufthansa 747 to visit Sydney was D-ABYZ (-230BF) during the Sydney Olympics (AFIK).

Chris

I think a.net is more inclined to accept a photo if you emphasise that it's a rare sight, and this one certainly is, at least nowadays.

Anyway, you will at least have the satisfaction of knowing that I liked your image. The subject matter is an important factor in that. I've always admired the LH livery. It's pure class. As a West Coaster, I'm also partial to blue and gold liveries (SQ is another example), even though I'm not really into the well known footy team. So there you are.

Hi Jeremy

DC10-30, D-ADJO of Lufthansa visited Perth on 11 February 1994.

And although not strictly Lufthansa, the previous year saw the visit of B747-230F, D-ABYT and DC8-73 D-ADUC both of German Cargo on 27 February 1993. They bought in stage equipment for Paul McCartney and Wings (a great concert at Subiaco BTW).

There may have been others I've missed.

Hi all

I'm planning on heading out to the airport on Sunday to get a shot of it leaving. Going by this website (http://www.travelio.net/berlin-philharmonic-orchestra-takes-off-on-lufthansa-to-asia-and-australia.html) and an official release from the Orchestra and the following lines:

The most famous German Orchestra will leave Australia onboard their Lufthansa-Jet for Singaprore on 21st November. They are expected to land at Singapore’s Changi Airport at 4.50 pm local time.
Would I be correct that the plane would be leaving Sydney at about 12pm AEDT?

Thanks, and look forward to meeting other spotters out at the airport on Sunday. Be good to put some names to faces!

Hi Chris

Thanks for sharing the image of the LH B747. It's a terrific shot.

I hope to travel to Avalon for the airshow in March and also get up to Sydney for a few days to have an o$gy of spotting and photography so I'm wondering where you shot the LH from. I haven't been spotting at Sydney for several years so am unfamiliar with the favourite spots now (except for Shep's Mound and the Beach).

Cheers

Bob

The following are my photos from today.

Opted for the beach, and surprisingly, the departure time of the aircraft work favourably with the sun's position! :)

I was there, got some photos, my camera batteries kept on dying but i managed to nail it from the carpark. What a beauty, i was going to try and get photos from the fence, but decided for a full shot of the aircraft from the carpark, which resulted in me not getting a wave from the pilots:mad:;)

Nice photos. I'm confident there's at least one a.net shot in there somewhere. I particularly like the one with the dogs going for a swim ...

Bob C - I'm afraid I missed the LH DC-10 in PER in Feb 1994. I was on an overland trip somewhere in west Africa at the time!
