our fine friends at the Swire Group have decided to do away with the shell seat in Y class on it's longhaul product, seems the fine folks at Cathay have decided to listen to their passengers.

Couldn't agree more. Those seats are terrible.

I flew CX from BNE-HKG and back to MEL a couple of weeks ago. I liked the fact that the seat in front didn't recline back towards me, however I did find them very uncomfortable. At full 'recline', the head rest that is meant to support the head was far too high almost making it useless. That ridiculous airbag on the seatbelt didn't help comfort either. In my opinion, the economy seats on QF's A380 are the best airline seat I've ever flown in and will support QF next time I fly long haul.

only the A330 hard back seat had the air bag, the same hard back seat in a 747 had no air bag

It's a good news, a great one actually. The hard back seats made the cabin looks bad, especially when you look from the rear, it looks uncomfortable to me, don't even mention to seat on it for a 9 hour flight to HKG, awful!

The Herringbone J may not last long either... but given the unpopularity of the Y they have to act on that first

What are the Kong-Kong Australia flights classified as - regional or long haul?

long haul

HKG-SYD was CX 1st ever long haul flight, that's why it gets the flight number CX100/101

PER-HKG is regional if I am not mistaken,
