View Full Version : Qantas to receive three more A380s this month. Dec 2010

The part in story that intested me the most is that "John Leahy said yesterday Airbus is "on track" to deliver three more A380s this month. Airbus said the planes are all destined for Qantas. "

http://www.theage.com.au/travel/travel-news/qantas-to-receive-three-more-a380s-this-month-20101202-18h61.html

Does anyone know the actual day's the planes are due ?

So that means the SQ's A380 will definitely be January now!

I believe OQG has one of the A model engines on it and needs replacing. Does anyone know if that's been done?

Malcolm Parker

I beleive they have all been replaced and have the B class engines on them, thus the reason for the delaying in delivery of OQG until this WED from TLS.

Also MSN55 will be delivered ahead of MSN050, according to the latest from Hamburg. (MSN055 only has one Pre delivery flight to make before flying back to TLS for delivery)

Can anyone expand further on what problems MSN050 has been having. There has been reports of a lot of niggling things and has been referred to by some in Hamburg and Toulouse as the "problem child"

VH-OQG is delayed due to engine issues. The other two due this month also look like they will be delayed because of the engine issues.

Here's what the Sydney Morning Herald is reporting this morning as the reason for the delay with OQG:

Qantas is facing fresh frustrations over its fleet of A380s after a defect was found in a new engine at a factory in France.

A possible faulty oil tube in one of the new superjumbo's Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines has forced the manufacturer to delay slightly the transfer of ownership of the next superjumbo to Qantas at Airbus's plant in Toulouse, according to a leaked email.

"One step forward and two back! We can't take a trick in getting more aircraft into the air and back into service," Qantas's fleet manager said in the email to pilots obtained by the Sydney Morning Herald.

Malcolm Parker

Don't count on any delivery in the next few days for MSN047.

She underwent a test flight after the engine change and now she is hosted up on jacks in the hangers after some strange noises started to appear in the doors (wheel bay doors perhaps??????).

No luck on any of the A380's eh.

MSN047 should be delivered to QF in the next two days or so
MSN055 has flown its flight to TLS for handover, so I would expect this to be delivered next week sometime.
MSN050 - different story all together given the delays with this one I would expect JAN at best.
Yes 055 delivered before 050 !!

With LAX still a no-go for the short-term, where will these birds go? Boost capacity on 'roo route? Take over HKG/SIN/NRT routes that saw 747s removed so the 747s could be put on LAX routes?

It seems with the 3x A380s back in service, the 1x QF hopes to return to service soon, and then these two (and later three), there will be more available capacity on the 'roo route than what the QF schedule allocates.

Interesting... Could it go from being delivered Thursday to operating the next day, Friday? I've just been assigned the QF31 SYD-SIN for Friday and Ops say this is due to the service changing from 747 to 380.

They're going to place it into service between Sydney and Port Macquarie, to pick up some of the capacity dropped by Virgin Blue withdrawing their E-jet services from the route. ;)

Fred C

Damn, I thought someone would ask that question.
Haven't done them myself for a while.
Mostly consists of cabin interior work, placing Qantasisms in the cabin in correct places. Decals, safety equipment etc.

PER-SYD/MEL! :) We've had every other type on the route! (well, except the 717/Dash8)

Maybe PER-SIN or PER-NRT to say sorry for lumping the 767's back on that route.

I also here most of the issues with MSN050 are now ironed out except with engines. So I assume that means they are waiting on modified 'C' engines perhaps prior to any delivery. I guess that explains why this delivery slips in JAN now.
Does anyone now how quickly RR can pump out these engines (RR Trent 972) that QF use?
Appreciate any input.

Glad through we get to see a new A330 and A380 all arrive within three days of each other.

Oh dear........

Qantas, which has now received seven A380s, said a week ago that a "one-off problem" had caused Airbus to delay delivery of its newest A380 plane.

An airline spokeswoman said a "small anomaly" with the aircraft, reported to be a faulty oil tube in the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine, had forced the short delay.

Hoping the A380 is back on the route prior to May 20... when i fly back from Seattle via LAX... Personally, Im starting to get a bit nervous about the whole thing...(and that is, if they are going to be on the route or not - Not the safety of the aircraft.) Im flying an A380 MEL-LHR in April, and have no hesitations getting on it!

I notice on the Melbourne ACARS logs that QANTAS A380 services have resumed to Melbourne on QF 9/10 (1/1/11 - VH-OQD). Does anyone have any further details on what days the A380 is operating into and out of Melbourne?

Also, is QF 31/32 now operated by an A380 on a daily basis? It looks to have since 22/12/10 but 744 VH-OJS operated QF 32 last night.

James
