Isn't she flying Qantas, or is that just the fans?

Oprah is on a corporate jet, the fans are flying Qantas.

Pat Stevens
6th December 2010, 12:13 PM
Yeah, i'm curious too. Anyone know what time?

Andrew M

Oprah is on a corporate jet, the fans are flying Qantas.

I find that pretty much sums up what Oprah really thinks of her guests/fans.

I was under the assumption that she and John Travolta would be on the flight and would be talking to her fans throughout the flight.

It was meant to be an A380 and of course she would have been up in First Class, but the fact that she is taking a private/corporate jet is really disgusting.

Yet all her pathetic fans will still be jumping up and down about how she is changing the world etc etc

6th December 2010, 03:22 PM
Who cares if she's flying on private jet or a commercial airliner...

I'm sure the fans aren't going to give a rats **** - it's free, gratiuit, gratuito, מחמיא, gratis...

Travolta was always up front about not coming down under due to the impending birth of his child...

You've got to be in it to win it and hopefully this proves a handy PR exercise for both Tourism NSW & QF they both need all the good PR they can get at the moment...

Andrew M
6th December 2010, 03:27 PM
Well your typical Oprah viewer is not going to even be able to afford to fly here!

But yes the fans won't care as per my above comment it's going to be a trip of a lifetime in the otherwise boring lives that they live.

Geoff W
6th December 2010, 04:13 PM
Grant, I am with you. Who cares?

But I thought this was a big promo for QF, then that intrigues me.

A normal plane load? of people arriving into Syd, is no different to a normal plane load of family & friends...... Aaaw Auntie blah I havent seen you for years!

It wont be a big deal if she doesnt walk off a QF747 (now)? A380 issues aside.

More fascinated, than anything else

Kind regards,

Geoff

Andrew M
6th December 2010, 04:38 PM
That's my point Geoff

I thought this was a big promo for Qantas with Oprah traveling with the fans on an A380.

Images of her walking down the stairs from an A380 on a beautiful sunny Sydney day and/or of the plane coming into land etc etc.

It seems like she is just arriving on her own and fans are stuck on a standard flight.

I was under the impression it was going to be a big event, but perhaps with the A380 issues all this changed

Geoff W
6th December 2010, 04:52 PM
Now Andrew.

Are QF paying for this Oprah "private jet" flight?

You are SO evil! Hah!

Kind regards

Geoff

I have my money on N54SL (http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=54SL) for Oprah's trip to Australia. This aircraft is owned by Harpo Inc in Chicago, and "Oprah" is a registered tradmark of Harpo Inc.

And just in case it wasn't obvious, Harpo is Oprah spelled backwards. Interestingly, her Bombardier Global Express is powered by two Rolls Royce turbo-fan engines ...

Actually, it's quite an impressive long range business jet:

Nigel C
6th December 2010, 06:34 PM
The new G650 is also powered by the same engines, and Rolls Royce has a relatively long history of supplying engines to the ultra long range bizjet market.

What's the connection/implication you're trying to make here Philip?

Andrew M
6th December 2010, 07:08 PM
I found it interesting

Philip Argy
6th December 2010, 07:46 PM
Well, she was slated to travel on an A380 with her studio audience, but due to a problem with a certain Rolls Royce engine, those plans got ditched and the A380s declared unusable for ex-LAX operations. So now her audience and production crew are on their way from Chicago to Sydney in two 744s and she is coming in a somewhat more private but nevertheless Rolls Royce-powered Global Express bizjet.

Must say something about my lateral thinking if no-one else besides Andrew M sees any irony in the Rolls Royce connection - that's what made it interesting for me anyway! :)

Hi All,

Given the range of the Bombardier BD-700-1A10 "Global Express", which according to specs is 11,130km, 11,390km and using Great Circle website, it shows LAX - SYD to be 12,051kms where would she re-fuel?
HNL maybe??

Well your typical Oprah viewer is not going to even be able to afford to fly here! ...

Not true. My understanding is that the typical Oprah fan belongs to the middle-class female demographic who have high levels of disposable income. It is for that reason that Oprah is so successful; when she identifies her support for a product, her fans buy it.

her audience and production crew are on their way from Chicago to Sydney in two 744s

from www.syd.com.au:

QF7552 Chicago - Honolulu

Estimated: 7/12/2010 10:05pm

QF7554 Chicago - Honolulu

On the TV news this morning they said that Oprah will fly to Melbourne on Friday so we will probably have her in Sydney over the weekend.

Hello,

While I could not give two hoots about Oprah, I do find it interesting that VH-OJB operated QF12 this morning. A strange aircraft allocation due A380 issues or a play on "lots of seats" for the flight?

James

Jack B

VH-OJI and -OJB have been pretty regular between LAX and SYD lately. Both have been configured with Premium Economy recently so I suspect this is the reason.

There's an aircraft that has showed up on Flight Explorer, leaving from PHOG (Kahului, Maui) to Cairns this morning...ETA into CS at 1010 local. Rego and a/c type has been blocked. Could possibly be her aircraft...

It would have to be her aircraft. If she is going to Hamilton Island, it would be the logical fuel stop.

Yes you can google the rego, but the point i was trying to make is that any Joe Blow walking past with out the internet strapped to his back could not tell who owned the aircraft, its not adorned with company logos.

Hi Wayne, not airside, but close enough, Was covering the arrival for TEN NEWS, so I staked out the best spot, after a tip off as to the gate the aircraft would be using,:D all other media had to shoot thru the chain link fence, but i set up to shoot thru the holes in the gate where the padlock is !!

Only shots that were clear of the obstructing fence..

Umm not sure what you expect on a corporate jet....

Added to that the secrecy surrounding her visit.

Heck this morning I have heard she is coming to Melbourne and then I heard she is going to Ayres Rock as well today..... too much secrecy really.

Slightly off topic, but last night in Las Vegas where I live, I was driving home down the Airport Connector which goes past the stand off bays for Terminal 1's D Gates and saw a United 757 with "The Oprah Winfrey Show" painted on the tail.

I just did a search and found a photo of the plane (http://nycaviation.com/2010/11/united-airlines-unveils-special-oprah-winfrey-757/). It was painted to commemorate her show's final season. So she gets a trip to Australia and a commercial jet painted for her!

Steve Bottom

would have preferred that the United 757 came to Australian and Oprah got painted. :D

Oprah commented to the ABC tonight that they had to wait at the Harbour Bridge summit for 40 minutes because the photography chopper had to return to base to refuel!

Having 300 people spending 40 minutes atop the Harbour Bridge waiting for the helicopter to return sounds like bad planning on someone's part, although Oprah may have climbed more slowly than predicted! At least the bridge-based camera crew got plenty of extra footage.
