Does anyone know where the aircraft will be coming from?

If it is replacing the B762F, than surely it will only operate out of Sydney, but Qantas do operate a nightly Melbourne service, with a passenger B763.

Inquiring minds want to know but await word from QF. ;)

While being de-iced in Frankfurt last night I was looking at the Lufthansa Cargo MD-11s and was wondering when this would happen. Great news!

Will the word 'Freight' be italicised like the 'Spirit of...' titles? I feel the Kangaroo on the tail would make it look complete. Qantas tried the lack of a tail logo (and less of the tail being covered) with the regional subsidiaries when QF and TN merged. It wasn't long before the standard Qantas logo prevailed. It makes sense. (Wasn't the first 733 in Qantas livery a sight to see? Or the Twin Otters of Australian Regional (absorbed into Sunnies)? Or the Shorts...)

I was always a fan of the AustraliaAsia 'ribbon' logo. Perhaps something freight-like could be thought up? Or maybe just the Kangaroo, I digress..

Why can't Qantas use their own pilots for this? Another decision which I feel will affect morale at QF.

Could be ex JAL Cargo 767 ? Have all of those been allocated since the closedown of JAL Cargo?

EFA is 100% owned by QF....

Mick F
6th December 2010, 03:19 PM
I realise that Brad, but will they endorse these pilots on the 767, or will Qantas just use current 767 pilots?

Mick

Ash W
6th December 2010, 05:22 PM
What do they do now? Afterall, all this is is a new aircraft to replace an existing 767-200.

Mick F
6th December 2010, 07:27 PM
Currently they contract it to an entirely different company, QF pilots aren't involved.

Kangaroo with a backpack is a great idea!

Damian N
7th December 2010, 07:21 AM
Looks great.....I think the lack of a Kangaroo works well with the lack of a window-line yet remains still recognisable as Qantas. How about some winglets????

PS does anyone know what the small "logo" is beside the cockpit window?

Brock Little

I would say not. The 'Freight' part of the Qantas Freight logo is marketed in the font as seen on the 'mock up', while the Spirit of Australia slogan is marketed in the italiscised font.

Agree with the roo, would make it look complete!

I'm against putting the Roo on the tail. To do so would make it look very similar to any other Qantas B763 in the new scheme. The lack of a Roo on the tail makes this stand out.

Do we know when EFA is due?

My log shows that the ATI B762 hasn't flown since Jan 27th.

Peter the ATI 762F is grounded due corrosion i have heard.

Peter Agatsiotis

Thanks Lloyd; I was there yesterday am but didn't see it so it may be in one of the hangars?

Saw a few pics the other day of the 763F being painted. Titles were on and tail was painted so she should not be too far away!

Jayden Laing
6th February 2011, 03:23 PM
The last couple of days, the ATI 762F has been inside Qantas Hangar 191 (directly opposite the QF domestic boarding gates with platforms & scaffolding surrounding it.

Karl M
11th February 2011, 08:12 AM
Lastest pic I saw yesterday showed it all painted up all looks as though it was ready to go. Was photographed in front of a hanger in SIN, so guess it would come direct from there.

According to Aviation Letter, the a/c is ex ANA JA603F (33510) and is being leased to Express Freighters Australia (with Qantas colours).
They have the reg as VH-EFR?

(Torin the 3 JAL 763F's have all gone to LAN Cargo)

Tony G
11th February 2011, 11:26 AM
I actually think the colour scheme would be quite plain. Would be good to see once, then its just another Qantas aircraft. Would be nice to go for a polished or gray fuselage, or even animated pallets painted down the side.

The picture I saw yesterday had the rego as VH-EFA, though had to zoom in to read it, so could be mistaken.

Well you could be right Karl it has always been mooted as EFA.

Just checked CASA and EFA is currently a Cirrus SR22.
VH-EFR 'not found'.

Apparently Qantas Freight 767-300F is due later this afternoon from Singapore at 7:10pm as QF7572. Up on the SACL site as 2 days delayed with an updated time of arrival to tonight as shown.

Nice pics guy, considering the weather!

I don't mind it the livery. It would have been good to see at least the outline of the roo on the tail.

Raymond Rowe
13th February 2011, 12:49 PM
Nice to see it but why wont Qantas let them put the rat (Kangaroo) on the tail.

Bob C
13th February 2011, 02:00 PM
Thanks for sharing the shots guys ; hopefully, we'll see it in Perth one day.

I guess the aircraft has a large rear cargo door but I can't see any outline of it in the photos.

Peter Agatsiotis
13th February 2011, 02:28 PM
I was out there this morning but couldn't see it amongst all the a/c at the Jet Base but don't think it has a rear cargo door only a large one at the front.

D Chan
13th February 2011, 05:12 PM
What Bob C was referring to (I think) is large aft below deck door. All of Qantas's existing 767s have large fwd below deck door and small aft below deck door

John Tavendale
13th February 2011, 07:02 PM
Yeah Bob, it does have the large cargo door aft on the starboard side.

Knocked these up for the new SkySpirit 767 (Formerly POSKY).. still working on 'em.

Bob C
13th February 2011, 07:18 PM
No, D Chan, I wasn't referring to that as what would be the point of a dedicated freighter if it only had under deck storage and only a small door at the front ?

A bit like the RAAF's new KC30Bs that only have under deck storage and no large cargo door to utilize the upper passenger deck space.

And thanks John for confirming the cargo door is on the starboard side.

John Tavendale
13th February 2011, 07:52 PM
Bob, what Dickson means is the large cargo door on the starboard side is for underfloor storage. The only upper door is on the port side at the front of the aircraft.

As seen here: http://www.airliners.net/photo/All-Nippon-Airways/Boeing-767-381F/1355892/L/

Fred C
13th February 2011, 09:16 PM
Well as JA603F has a large aft cargo door then I guess VH-EFR has one too, as they are one in the same.:D Looks like large cargo doors all round then.

I was in Sydney last Tuesday, and spotted it inside the 767 hangars.

Fred, are there any plans that you know of with regards to adding any more freighters?

Cheers

Fred C
5th March 2011, 08:19 PM
Nigel,
Not at present, although there was a rumour of possibly a second one if the first works well for them. At the moment it will only be across the pond and back just like the ATI 767-200.

Nigel C
6th March 2011, 07:03 AM
Thanks Fred.

The aircraft has now been towed to Bay 2 on the freight apron, right next to the ATI machine.

When will they return the ATI 762 or will they keep it a bit longer?

Brian Wilkes
6th March 2011, 12:07 PM
What will be the arr/dep days and times for this aircraft if anyone has them?

Shayne G
6th March 2011, 01:33 PM
What will be the arr/dep days and times for this aircraft if anyone has them?

The aircraft should follow the ATI 762's old schedule so it should go like this.

Monday - Thursday it departs Sydney at 10:10pm and arrives back the next morning at 6:05am. Then on Saturday it departs that night (Probably 10:10pm) and arrives back 6:05am Sunday morning. Then it does an extra flight on the same Sunday at 8:05am and arrives back on the same Sunday at 3:55pm.

Hope this helps!

Doesn't look finished without the Kangaroo tail

Tony G
7th March 2011, 05:25 PM
Would they have a dedicated crew for the freighter. Or will they rotate crew flying both the passenger and freighter 767's? I could only imagine, communication with passengers would be the only difference.

Fred C
7th March 2011, 05:58 PM
This is not a Qantas aeroplane. It is owned by Express Freighters Australia. It is crewed by EFA.
