View Full Version : How To Repair QF32

Presumably a hull writeoff is an unattractive option to the various parties (Airbus, RR, QF, etc) so I'm wondering:

What is the status of the aircraft at the moment and what is happening to it on a day-to-day basis?

Is it repairable?

Would they repair the wing or replace the wing?

Where does the aircraft get repaired? Patch and fly back to France/Repair in Singapore?

If repairable, does QF have it in their insurance policy that they can hire a preplacement (my car policy lets me get a hire car!)?

Hopefully the Discovery Channel will create a step-by-step documentary.

Apparently a new wing will be transported to Singapore and will be replacing the damaged wing. The fixes will be done in Singapore as well. Hope this helps.

Brock is right. It is a significant repair - looks like 6 months at least but it will be done in Singapore.

As for the $$$$... Ouch!!!!

EDIT: Further http://yssyforum.net/board/showthread.php?t=6224, Grahame's post. (Thanks for all the pics again Grahame.)

My perception is the A380's are undergoing an extreme level of checking currently ( I have NO problem with this at all, safety is critical)

I am concerned how QF can recover all this cost.

This is going to go on for YEARS! (Legal wise)

I think that is very unfortunate to say the least.

Kind regards,

Geoff

Repairing OJH after the Bangkok incident, cost approx $100mio.

Repairing OJK after the oxygen tank explosion, will we ever know ?

Replacing the wings on A380 OQA, "priceless".

FOR EVERYTHING ELSE "THERE"S AIRBUS CARD" the Rolls Royce of credit cards!!, or perhaps AIRBUS EXPESSS??
In QANTAS example, perhaps BANG CARD might be fitting, or even Disaster Club???

I would think that Rolls Royce would be getting their credit card out for this one... Read somewhere where they said it will cost about $70 million to fix.

If Airbus / Rolls Royce pay for it on AMEX they can transfer all the FF points to Qantas Frequest Flyer.

Spot on Ray. Rumors now, it could be 12 months for we see Nancy back in OZ!

Does the fact that the wing is being replaced in Singapore before Nancy goes back to Toulouse signify the seriousness of the structural damage to the wing spars, or just that it's much cheaper to do the repair in Singapore?

Apart from the serious damage to the wing, I thought that the damage to the fuselage was restricted to the wing/fuselage fairing. Surely if they can replace a wing in Singapore, they can fix the fairing. I am very interested to see how they are going to jig the aircraft to allow fitment of the new wing.
