Hi all,

I have a need to get some images of British Airways aircraft at a terminal. I am not sure which gates BA use at Sydney, would they be visible from the observation deck or some other part of the terminal?

If the aircraft is parked at bays 8, 9, 10 or 24 (might be another one on that side, can't remember) then the observation deck is the place to be. If it is parked at bays 30, 32, 34 or 36 then the windows at the foodcourt is the only option. If it's at bays 31, 33, 35 or 37 then you're out of luck as they are behind the terminal. The only option you have then is to wait to get a taxiing or take off shot from the observation deck. During the day, they are often parked at the stand off bays across from T1 near Botany Bay.

BA usually use gates 30-37 so mostly out of sight of the observation deck

They were both parked on the northern apron on Christmas Day.

Tomorrow they're both scheduled for Bay 31 and 33 for the arrival, and 32/34 for the departure.

At this stage on the 29th, BA9 is due for Bay 8 at 0610, BA15 has no allocated bay at this stage. Departure bays haven't been allocated.

Thanks guys.

I'm planning on going either Wed or Thurs due to weather forecast being fine, is there an way I can get up to date gate info either on Tue night or Wed morning before I head out?

The afternoon might be an option if the gate is right.

Hey Steve,

Your best bet to get BA infont of the Obs Deck is during the morning when they do often park there. On a sunny day it would be backlit but with these overcast mornings you should be fine. Afternoons they tend of face each other on the Eastern Pier of T1.

I won't be able to provide any further gate info until the new year, when I'm back at work. Although I'm sure someone here will be able to get the info you require as it becomes available.

Folks,

Is it possible to park the car somewhere around Wolli Creek and walk to the terminal? Is there a pedestrian underpass?

You could park at Wolli creek and get the train. You could also park somewhere along the bus route 400 and catch that.

Try the southern reaches of Tempe Reserve. I believe there aren't any parking restrictions and there is plenty of it. From there it's only a short walk across Qantas Drive...

Chris,

correct me if im wrong but i think the place you are referring to is called St Georges Rowers club.. it is a 5/10 minute walk from Qantas Drive/International Terminal-

i cant honestly remember the time limit but i think its 4 hours? if coming from the east on Qantas Drive take first right turn after the bridge that goes over Georges river just past T1 international and then another right and you are at that rowers club carpark- plenty of space ..

Ste George rowers club itself has a 4 hour limit of parking but there are plenty of spots on the sides of the roads around the club that are unlimited. That would probs be your best bet to escape paying anything.
