I was spotting today at Sydney when I saw a lady climb the fence and jump it.It was near Shep's Hill (New Control Tower). She made it across the Taxi way before security picked her up.Security did a good job, they were on site within 40 seconds of her jumping the fence. That's not something you see every day.

And thats the sort of thing that leads to spotting areas being closed off completely.

^^ Agreed... Soon, that will be closed off now as a 'security weak point' no doubt, thanks to her stupidity!

yes I agree with Chris as i was on the phone to the police airport security showed up and collected her.The Fed's then were asking myself and another gentleman what we had seen so in another way spotters are extra eye's for security.

Any ideas why she did this? or what she was trying to do?

The airport attracts all sorts of loonies. I mean, just look around.......

Does that include those on the inside of the fence as well????

Well, they're the ones who have been admitted to the asylum. The well behaved ones get gate leave to visit family and friends.

Well I was the other 'gentlemen' that was spotting today and saw the fence leap.

At first I really couldn't believe what I was seeing. The person in question made it across taxiways Charlie and Bravo and was close to the edge of 16 right when she was picked up by the airport safety officers (kudos to your boys Nigel, they were there long before SNP).

A QF 737 had just landed on 16R and was vacating on the rapid (Bravo 7) and it actually pulled up and stopped for fear it might run into the person. Also the next aircraft along was a Thai A340-600 on takeoff, and it really would been a big mess if she hadn't have been caught.

The AFP guy I spoke to was one of the officers previously a part of the spotters program, so I had spoken to him before. They actually seemed thankful we were there (I was reaching to dial the AFP number as Andrew was ringing the Local police, when the safety officers pulled up) and that we had gotten pictures of the event and were able to give our account. So I see it as a positive for spotters, not a negative.

As I say, it was one of the most bizarre things I have seen in the many years I have been around airports (well Grannys late night incursions into the domestic terminals might be pretty close).

I'll post the pictures I have after the AFP have their way with them.

Browneye,

That was an attempted incursion thank you very much... I might also correct you that it was not the domestic terminal moreso the AAE area...

And there were no board witnesses to those events either, just the tax payer funded escorts :D

That is good news then I guess!

If I recall right, one of the tax payer funded escorts was a board member??

And you'd hardly call him one of the 'prettiest' of escorts either.:p

Looks like Sydney Airport are upgrading the Fences.I saw them putting looped Razer wire up around where the person jumped the fence the other day.

Well that should help keep the looneys in!

I knew the tower had that big spotlight for a reason...
