I was reading Australian aviation express and it stated that the number 2 engine that failed was originally number 4.Since both outboard engines 1 and 4 dont deflect thrust on landing and both inboard engines 2 and 3 do, Does that mean all four engines are capable of deflecting thrust on landing and the pilots only use engines 2 and 3, or do pilots only have the option to deflect thrust on 2 and 3 and not the outboard ones.

Craig.
The engines fit into a cowling, which on number 2 and 3 have a thrust reverser in it.
Number 1 and 4 do not. They are just straight cowlings.
