According to ACARS, the Asiana 601/602 services were operated by a B747 today. Is this pickup correct ??

In this situation, would they have planned for this in advance and flown a 744 crew a day earlier to fly the return flight, or just augment with crew on board.

Interesting that it's a combi. I thought these were prohibited after The Helderberg?

Hi Ian,
just wondering what happened in Helderberg?

The Helderberg was a SAA 747-200 combi that crashed as a result of an uncontrollable fire killing all 159 people onboard. It has long been suspected that the aircraft was illegally carrying weapons and/or rocket fuel propellant.

No new builds, as the nature of the safety requirements makes them uneconomic. KLM still has 5 744Ms - I didn't realise Asiana had them as well

In case there's any doubt, OZ does operate Combi 744's.

In case there's any doubt, OZ does operate Combi 744's. I wasn't questioning, just truly didn't realise. And I'd forgotten about LH, although I vaguely remember a discussion somewhere saying they were converting some/all to full passenger - or was that another airline....
Maybe I'll just shut up :)

As mentioned by Jacob, the same 747 is operating today, rego HL7423.
