Interesting.
Given the PC-9 has effectively the same engine as the PC-12, it would be interesting to see if the cause of the 2 PC-9 engine failures has been the same cause as the PC-12 engine failure in WA last January.
Anyone know where the RAAF sends their PT6's for overhaul?

Don't some king air types have the same engines aswell?

The PT6 is fitted to the Caravan, King Air, Bandit, B1900, Shorts 360/330 and the Twin Otter. However there are different variants, ie the Bandit as the PT6-34 and the Big Shed as the PT6-67.

All King Air's have PT6's, however the PC-9 and PC-12 are fitted with much larger PT6's than what is in the King Air (King Air is a medium turbine, PC-12 and PC-9 are large turbine).
The PT6 that failed in the PC-12 in WA last year was found to have been overhauled incorrectly by an approved workshop. There was a subsequent PT6 found at the same time (not far off failing) in another PC-12 that was overhauled just before the one that failed.
The reason I am curious about this and the other PC-9 incident, is to see if it's the same problem as the PC-12 engines.

A23-039 was noted at the Whitsunday Airport Grand Airshow on 1 May - some photos are on my blog - http://cqplanespotting.blogspot.com/
Motty probably has better pics - he was there too!
Pretty sad... Glad the crew are okay though.
