Hi, I'm doing a day trip with CBR-MEL, MEL-SYD and SYD-CBR sectors.

I have booked the first one and am pretty much decided on the last. I am just trying to fill in the MEL-SYD with something interesting.

At this stage I was leaning towards JQ3 as I am yet to fly an A330, but I was wondering if there are any other international flights between MEL and SYD that have a wide body on?

I will be flying on July 11.

Thanks

Not international (does that matter?), but plenty of 767's on the run.

Not for QF - they used to have the 74 continuing down to MEL. It was an early flight, but always worth the effort ;)

Nothing from MEL besides the JQ services. From BNE there is the QF8 (6:30am departure). There is also the QF81/82 between SYD and ADL on Monday/Tuesday.

Yeah, the CBR-MEL is in a 767, I am trying to mix up the different types. I might stick to JQ3 then

I was going to say you could have booked with Virgin Australia to try out their A330 on MEL-SYD, but then again it probably isn't operating on the date you want. Of course, it's not an international flight on a domestic sector, but it's still an A330.

Depending on when your trip is, the other MEL-SYD flights which feature an A332 (domestic config) are QF408 (the 7:00am depature) and QF412 (the 7:30am departure).

Not on July 11th which is a Monday - it operates SYD/MEL on Sat and MEL/SYD on Sun.

QF A330-300s and international A330-200s operate between MEL and SYD sometimes. Domestic terminal obviously. The 'closest' thing to it being an international flight is the fact it's often operated by long haul Cabin Crew as part of international patterns, eg SIN-PER-MEL-SYD sorta thing

Be careful with JQ3 in terms of your connecting flight back in Sydney.
Being an international flight it can run late into and out of MEL.

just my 2c.

JQ3 is in at 1600ish, the flight to Canberra would be 2110, I think we will be safe ;).

But another twist is the possibility of staying in Brisbane for two nights and getting QF8 back. This will be the most likely outcome.

It's official, I will be flying up to Brisbane on a 738, staying two nights in Brisbane before flying down to Sydney on QF8 in Premium Economy purchased with my frequent flyer points, before a flight down to Canberra on a Q400 to finish the trip.
