Cathay Pacific A330 and 747 - AC Power Economy Seats

Hi all,

Towards the end of June I am flying to London via Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific (Economy Class)

I am led to believe that both their A330 and 747 have AC power sockets available in economy class seats. (According to their website they do; however, I have read a few posts on other websites which suggest AC power sockets are rare on Cathay aircraft)

Has anyone reading this post flown Cathay recently and can you confirm power availability(AC or USB)

according to Seat Guru, all CPA Aircraft have Power Sockets. The A333 and B744 all AC power, the rest of the fleet a mix of AC and EM Power. The power sockets are mort likely located under the seats, between the Armrests

I flew from Sydney to Hong Kong on B-LAF (A-330) last Saturday and there were AC Outlets in Economy - they are only visible when the tray table is lowered as they are in the back of the seat in front. What the deal is with exit rows, I dont know.

Oh and BTW, the A-330 Economy seats are terrible - they dont recline, rather the seat cushion slides forward. I read in another thread here some months ago that plans are afoot to get rid of those seats.

Good Lord they still have those awful things installed?? I did an HKG-ADL (overnight) sector stuck in one of those seats two years ago and at the time they were talking about replacing them.
I think I managed about 5 minutes of sleep on that flight due to the appalling seat. As noted, the seat cushion slides out from under you and the lumbar support tilts forward resulting in your spine being curved like a banana. Tolerable during the day, but if you like to sleep on overnight sectors you'll wake up feeling like a pretzel if you sleep at all!

Yes, those seats still exist, and even worse, they are on at least one of their 773ER's too - I followed up the SYD-HKG flight with HKG-TPE on B-KPA, and the same seats were present there too - though at only 75 minutes duration it was bearable.

I travelled a whole bunch of CX sectors in March and April throughout Asia on a mix of A330, 777-200, 777-300 and A340 aircraft.

Cathay have a few different configurations on each type. All aircraft designated 33B or 34B had 110V AC power available, but it wasn't available on one regionally configured A330.

The crew told me the new seats had received a hammering from frequent travellers and had been bagged by reviewers too. They were expecting the seats to be replaced as the new business class was progressively installed throughout the fleet, beginning with the new deliveries first and then progressing further through the fleet to the older aircraft. The seat maps don't reflect that though.

I didn't find them exceptionally bad, and liked the fact that no-one could recline and push my meal into my lap. From that point of view, the fixed shell was good. Uncomfortable for sleeping though, I agree.

Then again, on one of the longest sectors 7:45 on A340, there were only 65 in the whole economy cabin, so space was aplenty.
