Southern Air operate on behalf of MasKargo though it seems rare these days. Today it departed as MH6204 at 1:15pm.

I think you might find that MasKargo are getting rid of them as a result of Southern Air being often late/delaying flights due to mechanical & other problems.

I've noticed they are often delayed for a long time or don't show up all together, thanks for the info there Jayden, any idea when they will stop coming completely? I wouldn't mind seeing a classic 747 take off one last time before Sydney loses the last visiting classics :(

No idea Shayne but i should imagine it wont be too far in the distant future as you said because MasKargo seem to operate their own aircraft a lot lately

Even there own 747F's (MasKargo) are also late, some 24 hours late!
Qantas's Atlas Air Cargo's 744F's never ever run on time either:eek:

If a classic 747 is coming into YSSY or is already there it would be greatly appreciated if someone could tell me.
thanks :)

Looks like MAS is operating a Southern Air 742 today due in at 10 for those who want to see a classic.

N761SA is the rego for MH6203, currently due 1015 for Bay 2. Expect Rwy 25 for arrival...the wind is forecast to get nasty from the west today.

Shayne G
5th July 2011, 09:34 AM
For those who want to see it depart, it should be overnighting and departing 6:45am tommorrow.

Nigel C

Just landed Rwy 25 in bright sunshine.

Wow, looks like N761SA is in new livery now, that explains her not flying in a while!

Nice catch Andrew and interesting tyre there! :D

Nigel C
5th July 2011, 02:31 PM
Yep, she blew it on departure from Malaysia and won't be departing tomorrow as a result. There was a little more than just a blown tyre needing to be replaced.

Peter Agatsiotis
5th July 2011, 08:49 PM
Well they should have plenty of spare tyres. I am in the process of doing a project on retired, scrapped and stored 747's.
Not far into it and I've already found 6 Southern Air 747's stored at Mojave!

For those of you who are interested, here is a pic of the whole of N761SA this morning.

Hi,
any update to when she's going to leave?
thanks :)

Nigel C
6th July 2011, 05:52 PM
It could be a few days at a guess. It needs some repairs done to it before it'll be going anywhere. Currently parked on Bay 74 near General Holmes Drive.

Brad Varney
7th July 2011, 05:13 PM
did she depart today?

Jayden Laing
7th July 2011, 05:41 PM
No Brad. Patience is a virtue!!!! ;) It's around at the Qantas Jet Base undergoing repairs. Someone will let the forum know when it's going to depart.

Shayne G
7th July 2011, 05:41 PM
N761SA is still here, it's parked away from the Freight Terminal.

Brad Varney
7th July 2011, 05:53 PM
Oh okay :) I got freaked out when she got towed away and
disappeared. I was filled with disappointment that i'd probably missed her.

Shayne G

N758SA is operated MAS6173 today, it will arrive 1pm, depart 3:30pm.

Brad Varney
12th July 2011, 11:44 AM
It left at 4pm and I got some good shots of it
thanks for the heads up people :) I owe you big time.
So they usually come in every Tuesday, does anyone know why the Malaysian was an 7772 today instead of the 7474?
thanks

Shayne G

Thought I'd put it here for those interested, looks like N761SA is finally going home tommorrow morning, departs 6:15am.

Brad Varney
15th July 2011, 10:06 PM

Nice catch Brad, getting a Southern Air 742 was the highlight of my Sydney trip when I came over in Feb. You should go use the mound for morning departures, that way you would avoid getting your shots backlit :)

Brad Varney
18th July 2011, 12:59 AM
See any off these that could be Southern air? :)
http://www.sydneyairport.com.au/SACL/International-Arrivals.html?date=19/07/2011&results=20&carrier=Malaysia%20Airlines
I'll be back at school anyway so I can't really see them.

Brad Varney
18th July 2011, 01:04 AM
Haha thanks :)
Yeah I go to Sheps Hill, heeps in the morning, I just haven't posted many shots
most of them are NEF files though iv'e switched to shooting in JPEG, but it's a trek to convert them! and my image attachment thing doesn't seem to work.

Shayne G
18th July 2011, 01:23 AM
Well the last 2 weeks has shown that one of the two cargo flights on Tuesdays seem to be an Southern Air 747 classic. Could be MH6203 or MH6173 as the Southern Air but it can really only be known closer to the date.

Shayne G
19th July 2011, 06:31 AM
MH6173 is a MASkargo 744 from what I can gather, am not sure what MH6203 is today.

Jayden Laing
19th July 2011, 08:55 AM
MAS6203 is a B742 today (19/7/11)

Tim Bowrey
19th July 2011, 09:44 AM
N760SA on decent into SYD now. More often than not, the MH62** are opp by the leased aircraft and MH61** by MH -400 freighters.

I didn't get to see today's arrival, but the arrival on 25 a couple of weeks ago was great. The new colours and the burst tyre made for a great deal of interest.

With special thanks to Damian for the use of his "special" car roof for the great photographic position :)

I'm really happy N760SA is now flying to Sydney, it is a former Lufthansa aircraft and is certainly one of the oldest 747-200's in the Southern Air fleet seeing as it was built in 1976. This would most likely be it's first visit to YSSY since joining Southern Air. I would really love to see this one, hopefully it'll make more visits in the future :D

Brad Varney
19th July 2011, 04:48 PM
Thanks heaps guys for the heads up :)
YSSY's website confuses me because it displays flights and airlines that aren't real or don't fly here such as Lufthansa ect does anyone know why it displays these airlines
ect.
I really hope southern air are still flying here in 9 weeks because I'm on school holidays again. :)
thanks

That would be because they codeshare with other airlines.

Thanks guys..Quick question is all of southern's 742's been painted in the new livery or there still some old paint jobs kicking around ?

Brad Varney
12th August 2011, 06:03 PM
Thanks guys, from me as well might try and see this one.
So the rego for the 7472 tomorrow is N758SA, or something else.
thanks

Shayne G
12th August 2011, 06:29 PM
Yes N758SA should be the one tommorrow Brad.

Jaryd, I believe there are a few left in the old livery but none operate for MASkargo into Sydney at this time. N748SA, N754SA and N795SA. Their is also a few in storage for parts with the old livery but they probably are not relevant now.
