As one of the Chilean government's conditions on approving a merger between LAN and TAM is that the merged airline either be in only one of oneworld or Star Alliance, according to this USA Today article (http://travel.usatoday.com/flights/post/2011/09/lan-tam/548520/1).
Should LAN/TAM shift to Star Alliance, how would this potentially affect QF's decision to use SCL as a hub with LAN to connect to South America through oneworld connections?
