Great news for the Townsville region! This complements their existing Queensland services to OOL.

Flights will be code shared with Qantas. Will allow PAX to connect with JQ international flights from DRW

Its been a while since any new route (not served by an encumbant) has been started up in Australia its taken Air North to go out on a limb by trying a new route and good on them for giving it a go. This is the first RPT link between the 2 cities, Virgin has just started BNE-LST but this route already has competitor JQ on it.

Unless I am mistaken, National Jet had a 3 or 4 times weekly Dash 8-300 service DRW-MCV-ISA-TSV in the mid-late 90s. I cannot find anything on the internet mentioning these flights, but I remember they were National Jet branded and there was radio ads mentioning that the crew were locally based and wore Akubra hats.
