I searched, but couldn't find any other reference to this movement...

The first-ever 747-8F aircraft is planned to arrive SYD on Sunday afternoon as CX021. STA is 17:05. At the moment, the aircraft is planned to be the 'Hong Kong Trader' livery.

Happy spotting people!

Next one is planned for Tuesday.

So the one on Tuesday will continue down to MEL?

Looking at the Schedules Oliver it should continue down to Melbourne. ETA should be 1415LT.

Arrived at 1651 Rwy 16R. Parked on Bay 5.

Now for the 40-odd photos... ;)

Boy she looked stunning! :)

Very quiet too, idle reverse thrust I believe? I also heard on the scanner that they couldn't take the rapid exit on 16R, does anyone know why?

Anybody got any idea what time she departs at all?

Thanks

1920 departure.

Perhaps they were carrying too much speed to commit to the rapid exit? Alfa-4 is certainly suitable for Code F aircraft.

Is this the first B747-8 visit to SYD?

Sure is.

They did say it on final well before touchdown, but I suppose that could be the case. Perfectly normal touchdown, and yet they used idle reverse thrust, I think with a bit of reversers they could have made the Alpha 4 quite easily. But hey I'm not a pilot to judge! Just curious. ;)

It will be seen each Tuesday and Sunday in Sydney, and as Stefan posted, the Tuesday flight will continue to Melbourne. I believe this pattern will continue until around Christmas/New Year.

Nice photo Andrew. Here's hoping for a 747-8I in Cathay colours in the future.

And then we will never see it again in SYD unless there is an adhoc charter that requires the 747-8F. I'm lead to believe that its only visiting Australia for CASA certification as CX want to use it on the Asia/USA routes.

Managed to capture her landing from Swamp Rd. Snuck up on the few spotters that were there. Really quiet as she flew over head. Only got one snapshot as I video'd her landing. Any other shots were blocked by the BA 777 lining up for 16R but I'm just glad to have been there!

Great shots from those down at the Beach, a much better spot to appreciate the paintjob and the length of the -8!

Well here are some from me.
I also wanted to get SQ 241 on approach as city rail had replacement buses which allowed me to go from the international terminal to central without paying huge fares haha.

Haha I saw all of you up there.
Brilliant shots there Chris.

Maybe not very scientific, but it seemed quieter than Emirates A380 A6-EDP tonight which was hammering the reverse thrust for a very long time down the runway.

I saw that too, very long landing it seemed with reverse thrusters going off for longer then expected.

Did anyone else think that the hump looks really small because of the length of the thing ?
I know there the same size as the 744F's the hump i mean, the aircraft has now taken over as the longest aircraft from the A346...

Yeah Jaryd, it's a little out of proportion in my opinion. Same with the 747-8i, they look good but they will take some time to get used to because of the different dimensions etc.

Haha I loved the chaos at the eastern park when we were all informed that arrivals had switched to 16, we all went racing off...

Re the 748 not taking the high speed exit - it's probably part of the 'running in' process where they don't like to use full reverse unless absolutely necessary.

If you've got plenty of runway, why not use it?

Info I got of a mate is that it's still on and it's arriving about 11am. Hoping it's LJE if that's the case....

Nice Lee, I was undecided wether to stay at mound or go to beach due to the sun...

Lee G

Jaryd, I thought about it as well but with the crosswind, elected for the beach as the aircraft would nose into the wind making the beach-side of the aircraft in the light - having said that, the heat haze knocked everything around.....
