Hi

Does anyone here no which aircraft was concerned in the following turbulence?

SEVEN people have been injured aboard an international Qantas flight to Sydney after the aircraft was hit by severe turbulence. QF32 had departed London on Friday night and was three hours out of Singapore on Saturday morning when it was hit by turbulence caused by bad storms in the Indian airspace.

The aircraft is due into YSSY at 2100.

I was wondering what happened to this flight, when I was at Changi Airport last night.

I think VH-OQF might be closer.

QFA32D is on planefinder.net now as VH-OQF. Just passed Wahroonga.

I'm a bit confused here. The Qantas Source is saying OQL but OQF was delayed in Singapore from the previous day due to a tech issue and pax were put up for the night, hence the QF 32D. If this is correct then both 32s arrived at YSSY tonight, so which one was the effected flight?

Thanks
Jim

You're confused ... That makes two of us ..

QF32 leaving Friday was the affected flight (VH-OQF). The QF32 leaving Saturday was on schedule and was VH-OQL. So yes, 2 A380s arrived into Sydney tonight from Singapore.

Yes... per the media reports and the Qantas flight status page, the Friday QF32 ex London was delayed a full 24 hours in Singapore and became QF32D today alongside the normal QF32 that left London on Saturday morning.

Have found a few Twitter users who were reportedly on board.

http://twitter.com/johnjonesname

Not sure if he's speaking figuratively when he says "just had my head hit the ceiling due to turblance on #QF32 so hard the seat #fails"

http://twitter.com/TheFerret

"Just off QF32 in SIN. Hit major clear air turb, some minor injuries. Guy next to me hit roof. Happy to land."

"back of plane seems to have been hit by the fall harder than front, weird"

http://twitter.com/SimonSChan

"Did your seat ever recline? Mine (row 65) worked properly before hitting turb..."

"details in Fairfax story (eg SMH, WA Today) not 100% - will drop editor a note to advise"

"It hit severe turbulence about 2am Perth time. Some ppl were injured. All were shaken up."

"QF32 crew asked doctors/nurses onboard to help after incident - I heard some declined help. My seat not able to recline afterwards"

http://twitter.com/paulmervynevans

"No announcement from #QF32 captain for 5 minutes after turbulence event. Silence did not help calm nerves. Revise procedure??"

"No news re #QF32 flight status. Stuck in Singapore hotel. Not a Qantas rep to be seen. Flight time keeps slipping. Not good."

"Re #QF32. Why would 30 seconds of turbulence take an #A380 out of service for 24 hours???"

"So 400+ pax on #QF32 woken up at 4:30am & taken to SNG despite no OK for #A380. Could still be in bed!!! Where is replacement Boeing???"

"#QF32 engineers to now make decision re #A380 by 7:45am."

http://twitter.com/louflanagan also appears to have been on board.

Currently watching channel 10 and the media is just EXAGERATING it! One passenger claimed a person's head went through a overhead locker!

Typical people whinging about no communication for a few minutes after the incident, clearly they have never heard of "Aviate, Navigate, Communicate".

EDIT: Just read another story where a passenger seemed to be annoyed about the fact that the captain didn't warn them of the turbulence coming.....

Not only that, the news anchor reported the flight had diverted to Singapore... Pretty sure the destination was Singapore so not sure how it diverted...:eek::rolleyes:

Oh my, I just saw that report on the 5pm News, at least it was balanced at the end by rational passengers who praised the crew.

Once again this should of been a non event. I'm surprised they haven't mentioned the runway incursion from the other day....something potentially much more dangerous than some turbulence.

With 7 people actually injured, I think it's fair to say it was an event.

Without wanting to sound like I'm trying to downgrade the seriousness of a runway incursion, was anyone injured there? That might explain a bit of why one made the media and the other one didn't.

I'm on Nigel's side.

Both are pretty serious events in aviation these days. The runway incursion was a potentialy serious situation but it was resolved quite quickly and everyone involved acted quickly and efficiently. All the flights involved only had slight delays too at the most.

Serveral people getting injured on a Qantas flight is pretty big news in my opinion, especially when a mans head goes through a overhead locker...

Inside source says one pax was "milking it" for all it's worth, while the other five injuries appeared fine and will require no further treatment.

Aircraft was approaching a bank of high sirrus clound over Kolkata and pilot turned seat belt signs on but not every one made it back to their seats on time.

I don't deny that this is some type of incident but this guy is a bit of a drama queen if you ask me. Turbulence happen all the time and I remember having the same deal happen flying back from Bali on the old 747 classic VH-EBA. All those who were injured were not wearing a seat belt whilst seated, and it seems that is what had partially gone on here. I understand that if you need to get up,your belt must be removed, but how many people remove it whilst seated despite a strong suggestion from the crew at the start of every flight to keep it fastened while in your seat in case something like this occurs.

Just makes me mad

Regards
Jim

Four people being admitted to hospital in Singapore says that this is a garbage claim. Yes, being released again speaks to the extent of their injuries, but people do not get admitted to hospital over nothing. This reeks of a typical "Qantas insider" deny all response which thankfully their media people are not doing. The aircraft being grounded in Singapore for 24 hours was also obviously not done for no reason. Clearly enough happened to warrant it being checked over properly before returning to service.

Keeping the incident in perspective applies equally to both "sides". No-one's saying there's fault here - so there's no need to pretend that something didn't happen.
