Greetings,

I'm listening to Brisbane Centre 128.6 right now and just heard DL16 has been issued with STAR clearance - MARLN EIGHT arrival. It's currently cruising at FL320 and has been assigned with RWY 16R for landing.

It just been cleared to SHARK then MARLN for a MARLIN EIGHT arrival.

The rego is N704DK.

Does anyone know reason of the return?

I see him returning on Flight Radar 24 at the moment (13:20).

I wonder why?

No local standby declared, so nothing too major.

Depends, male pilot? Female pilot?

Ha ha. Well I heard a male voice on my scanner.

Maybe I should have said "It's landed" or "They have landed".

No specifics in any of the ACARS transmissions from N704DK.

It has been towed into a hanger at Qantas jetbase

Do the qantas engineers know how to maintain a 777?

They're about to find out!
Either that or Delta have their own engineers to work on it but have leased the hangar space perhaps? I don't know who looks after Delta...Qantas? Toll? AMSA? John Holland?

Some Qantas engineers were trained on the 777 for other operators when they used to look after them. I believe that none of them would be current at the moment.
Qantas Engineering will be providing them with a hangar, assistance and equipment required to do the task, whatever it may be.

I don't know who looks after Delta normally. It is not Qantas.

Could it be possible Virgin Australia are sending a team of 777 engineers from brisbane or melbourne to fix up the 777 for Delta?

Wouldn't VA have a team of 777 engineers based in Sydney?

Qantas engineering handle MAS 777's in Perth

I think they look after BAW 777's aswell

Perth is a long way from SYD. British Airways engineers look after the daily 744 and 777 in SYD.:D

VA engineering is contracted to AMSA (aka SIA) in all VA ports in AUS and SIAEC in LAX for line maintenance.

It didn't look like DL held much before making an approach so unsure if they dumped much fuel?
