A BOEING worker was seriously injured Friday evening at a US airport in Washington state after being run over by a 787 Dreamliner, which was being towed.

Dozens of paramedics and firefighters worked quickly to free the worker from under the right wing landing gear.

The accident was reported to have occurred at about 6.00pm local time (10.30am Saturday AEST) at Snohomish County - 45km north of Seattle.

After being extricated, the worker was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.

Images shot by a news helicopter showed rescue workers crowded around a Japan Airlines 787 that did not appear to have an engine installed under its right wing.

Further details about the worker, or their injuries, was not yet known.

Paine Field is the home of the Boeing Everett Factory, the primary assembly location for Boeing's wide-body 747, 767, 777 and 787 aircraft, which according to the company website, is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest building in the world by volume.

The poor guy has had both his legs amputated below the knees. Somehow, I don't find the puns above very funny...
