If anyone wants the Cathay Hong Kong Trader B-LJA (flying CX023), it will be in later this evening by the looks of it.
It's on the tarmac in Hong Kong and hasn't departed just yet - but should do so shortly. So it's late running.
Posted for those who want to get a shot of it (might do so myself if the timing is right). I'll update the arrival time when it gets going.
Edit 2: Will arrive 06:27 tomorrow (2 May).My info has it as B-KAF.

5th May 2012, 09:06 PM
Nope, not here now.
Chris, the only thing missing from your shot is the copious amounts of black smoke that bellowed from this thing, 8 blade props sure spun fast, so I'm not surprised you got easy prop blur.
It was interesting watching the start-up procedure for it yesterday. With about 6 ground crew front and back and sides, one guy gave all the funky aircraft carrier hand signals to the pilot (a lot of which I could keep up with, but many I had no idea what he was asking to check...), and after each procedure the aircraft was checked to make sure no leaks or faults were detected. Everything from the rear cargo door closing to the brake lines after 5m taxiing were checked prior to departure. It was a lengthy procedure but so slick to watch.
Cheers

Possibly when the USS Kitty Hawk came in 2007? I do remember seeing the last C-2 visit, but can't pinpoint exactly when. Too many night shifts clouding the memory I think!

The only C-2 Greyhounds logged (by me) were the 2 at SYD on 2nd July 2005.
162169/27 and 162164/26 from the USS Kittyhawk. I have them as C-2A and was wondering when the later 8 bladed props (C-2C?) were introduced.
there may have been more since but I don't recall any.

Sorry Callum but it's been mentioned and it's the Star Alliance not One World livery.
Pete If I remember correctly there was a C-2 around July 2007 can't remember which SQN but it had the rising sun art work on the tail, very much like the Sundowners scheme they had on there F-14's now F-5's.
Happy to be corrected.

and why does the USAF fly there c-17s here anyway do they have troops here in sydney
Jaryd stock
7th May 2012, 06:03 PM
They fly supplies around the place as to why sort dunno troops would be on charter flights from different American Airlines, and I could be wrong but before C-17's, C-141's used to do the run with an occasional C-5/ KC-10-135 doing it but very rarely. We might have to create another thread Callum to discuss further since this is movement thread only....

Hi Callum
US military aircraft are frequent visitors to RAAF bases and civil airports around Australia and come here for numerous reasons, apart from major exercises, as you would expect because Australia has been an ally of the US for many years.
For instance, last week a USAF C17 was at RAAF Pearce W A when the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson was visiting Fremantle so I assume it bought in spare parts and other supplies. Then a few days ago a C5 Galaxy collected a U S Coast Guard helicopter from Cairns for return to the US and in two weeks time a B52 will be making a fly by at the RAAF Pearce airshow. And USN and USCG Gulfstreams visited Brisbane last week, probably for the commemoration of the Battle of the Coral Sea.
U S military bizjets are almost weekly visitors bringing in high ranking officers and officials to discuss matters pertaining to various acquisitions we are making, our role with the US in sandy places, long range navigation exercises, future basing strategies in Australia, ceremonial events etc etc etc.
Given that US forces will be based in Darwin and that W A will receive more visits from US ships, we can expect to see the number of US military aircraft visits increasing.

Callum,
Firstly, welcome to the forum. There are lots of people on this forum with in-depth knowledge of pretty much all facets of the aviation industry, covering not only local issues but also aviation worldwide. Bob is one of many who grace these pages.
While you're finding your feet here, don't forget to check out the many features of the board like search functions etc. They'll help to avoid the double posting of information, finding out topics that may have been covered etc, as well as keeping the locals happy. :) And don't forget, there's nothing wrong with adding to a topic that was started a couple of years ago if it's still relevant today.
Once again, welcome, and I'm sure we all look forward to your contributions to the board.
Cheers

Hi Callum
Thanks for your comments ; being an aviation enthusiast is a terrific hobby and you will meet plenty of people from a wide variety of backgrounds many of whom have vast amounts of knowledge gained over many years and who all share the same passion.
In my case I started over 50 years ago and still have thousands of cuttings, logbooks, comics, magazines, photos, slides, books, models, memorabilia etc etc etc dating back to 1960.
Cheers

Hi Peter
I'm not 100% certain but I think the 8 bladed C2s are still designated C2A. Two were aboard the Carl Vinson and I'll get some photos to you asap when I can figure out how to downsize the images.
I wanted to get some photos from head on but the weather turned really nasty so the flight deck tour was cancelled but I did manage a few shots of aircraft parked near the "island" abeit in dark and rainy weather.
Cheers

No, Cargolux only used the 747-400F until the flights were discontinued on 25th December 2011. However they had plans to use the 747-8F down the line. Cargolux no longer operate any scheduled services to Sydney.

Thai Airways will opperate the 744 up until Oct 27 using TGP(Retro), TGW(Star Alliance) TGO, TGR, TGT and TGX. So for rego chasers, these are the only aircraft which will be used on our two SYD-BKK flights.

Peter,
B-2174 became N954AR with Sky Lease Cargo in March 2011.

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/V8BLC has it still over the NW coast with over 4hrs to go until it reaches CBR at 1925. But then as you say Jayden it's supposed to leave CBR at 1645 and arrive in SYD just after 1700. I know T7s are great and all but can they really be in two places that far apart at once!?!?

Far out! One person telling me is okay, not just a bunch of you.
Rory I think you need to be a little more diligent on what you post yourself. You should read the guidelines on whats Noteworthy and what isn't.
-USAF C-130 the other morning IS Noteworthy
-Maskargo 744 is Not.
People aren't 'sending hatred' to you at all. Most are just getting sick of things being posts that are regular schedualled services or no longer worth posting EG Air Asia 9M-XXF which has visited 4 days in a row its pointless posting this every day. Understand this is not a conversation thread, just a one post per movement or update. When people see a new post here, they expect something cool to be coming, not two laddies going at each other.
Enough talk, lets get back to business gents!:)
