Some points from the SMH story

Qantas is to delay the 2 A380's due in 2013
big increase in capacity in its domestic business
spending reductions follow a previously announced $500 million worth of cuts, which included staff cuts in its catering, cabin crew, pilots, engineering and ground operations
there are to be extra services during peak times on the business routes between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
The Boeing 747s will stay on the Sydney-to-Perth route
More Airbus A330s on the Melbourne to Perth route.
Jetstar will increase its capacity
QantasLink
will increase capacity across Queensland.

If I were a betting man I would say no more A380's ever for QF.
But I'm not.

I am leaning towards what Chris thinks as well. Cabin crew and pilots will be moved from QANTAS to Jetstar as it expands even further. I also think the upcoming maintenance announcement will see all heavy maintenance moved to Brisbane from Victoria.

People have been saying that for quite a long time and it is yet to happen.

If I was a betting man, I would say total A380 production won't exceed 200 aircraft...

I hope I am correct.

Strange thing to hope for.

If I was a betting man I would say the Qantas group will change there name to Jetstar group in the near future. Just look at how many jet* are popping around asia. All that money could be spent on Qantas International being a real player in the international market.

I noticed the 787's never got a mention. Surely they are on track to enter the Qantas fleet?

In my opinion, I don't think they will delay the 787. I think jet star cannot wait to service Europe and the USA.

Edit*** apologies I did not register the qantas fleet. Not sure on that one, as jet star grows It would compete with qantas routes more and more, so possibly more 787 to jet star as opposed to qantas.

787's will be the reason Qantas International no longer exists.

Jetstar will operate them to most destinations

Once a very good former QANTAS pilot told me while i was in hospital that qantas was feeding all there pilots and stuarts into jet star = something wicked this way comes!

And maybe some "Bruces" as well ?

On a side-note it's hardly surprising that QF would add jets to EMD, F100/B717 seemed inevitable once DJ stuck ATR72s in there. It's an easy win for QF and a silly move for DJ.

Although I have to ask, what is the fascination with contracting F100s from QQ instead of using their own B717/E190, even if they had to lease a couple extra to fit into the flying program?
