Early days but it looks like sad news out of Jakarta- with the SU95 missing, presumed crash near to Jakarta after a demo flight.

Update 1028 est: Reports suggesting Alexander Yablontsev, Chief test pilot Sukhoi Superjet program was the Captain in control of the jet. Alexander piloted the first Superjet flight and has extensive military, space and civilian experience including check and training, safety and management roles.

Not good news at all for the SuperJet; or even the Russian aircraft industry as a whole. It seemed that they were finally getting on their footing again to become a real player in the market, this will not help. :(

I hope they find them safe!

Good morning Chris,

Last I heard, the aircraft is still missing and the search was called off overnight due to bad weather and obviously, receding light.
It should be almost sun rise there in Jakarta, so the search should be continuing very soon, hopefully with some success in finding the site.

A SEARCH team has found the black box of a Russian jet six days after it slammed into a dormant volcano in Indonesia during a promotional flight, killing all 45 on board.
"We found the black box at around 10 this morning (12am AEST)," Ketut Parwa, head of the search operation, told said near the crash site at Mount Salak in western Java. "It was found around 100 metres from where we located the tail."

The team of Indonesian searchers and Russian experts had combed the densely forested mountain for days looking for the black box for a window into how the new Sukhoi plane flown by a veteran pilot crashed.

Mr Parwa said the black box, coloured bright orange for visibility, had been charred in the crash.

Sukhoi was on an Asian tour to tout its new Superjet 100, Russia's first post-Soviet civilian aircraft, in the region's rapidly expanding aviation market.

It lost radio contact and disappeared from radar screens shortly after taking off from Jakarta on what was supposed to be a 40-minute exhibition flight.

The jet crashed into Mount Salak, which juts 2200 metres into the air, and rescuers said dismembered bodies of the crash victims were strewn across a section of the mountain, with some falling into a deep ravine.

The aircraft is a joint venture between Sukhoi and Italy's Alenia Aeronautica, which made its first commercial flight last year.
